Special FX are over 90 years old. But they're actually kind of awesome!
It's basically the original King Kong.
I especially like when the brontosaurus is running amuck in London. Giant monsters running amuck is always awesome.

Probably the first silent movie I ever watched. Duh, it's got dinosaurs. Pretty good movie and probably the best adaptation of the Arthur Conan Doyle novel.

Finally watched it a few years ago (after having seen clips and photos). Some of the FX are impressive in that I cant tell where it was a stop motion puppet and where they used a live action version--such as scenes with them stuck in the mud.

I was amazed that you can actually see the bronto breathing when he's in the mud. Really above and beyond.

When I got to this I was amazed at just how thoroughly enjoyable it is. The effects are still wonderful - the stampede is particularly memorable.

Yes I think they used deflated footballs in it and would fill it with compressed air to get that effect. The Kong puppet maker was Marcel Delgado. I think he also worked on the Lost World. Recently someone was selling a recreation of the Kong puppet. It looked REALLY good. If I wasn't poor and too late to buy one, I would have.

B-
While it does take its time getting going, as it were, it's a pretty good visual companion to the (naturally) superior novel. Still, it did a lot of heavy lifting for the likes of cinematic King Kong & beyond, effectively so with iconic dinosaur miniatures & action.
