INTRODUCTION: Novelists formed Part I long ago and far away -- now it is the turn of the Screw ... I mean the Playwrights _________________________________________________________________________________________
SONG: (Vocals by Liza Minnelli)
Put down the knitting, the book and the broom Time for the next Garth Game QM is on the mend, old friends Who authored AUNTIE MAME?
Come fix halfers And N-T-As Come raise your score, start celebrating Post away, DDC's waiting
No use permitting Jervis or Marsha To steal all your links away Life is a new Garth Game, players Only a Garth Contest, old chums So come play the next Garth Game __________________________________________________________________
Quote:
"PLAYWRIGHTS teach us nothing about love: they make it pretty, they make it comical, or they make it lust -- but they cannot make it true." --- 'Queen Elizabeth' (Judi Dench) in SHAKESPEARE IN LOVE
*************************************************************************
SET-UP: Alphabetically and numerically listed below in BLUE are 100 career OSCARED (winning and nominated) ACTRESSES. Two of them can be linked in a unique way. Each has appeared in a leading or prominent role in a THEATRICAL FILM (no TV-Movies allowed in here) based on a PLAY authored by the same PLAYWRIGHT. 50 PLAYWRIGHT INITIALS are helpfully available at the bottom (to be deleted as discovered), but include only the first (or prominent) and last letters (Ex. CLAIRE BOOTHE LUCE would be listed as 'CL'). No Shakespeare here -- 'WS' initials do not appear below.
CHALLENGE: Match the ACTRESSES, name the PLAYWRIGHT, and identify both FILMS. A posting example is given below. Just one answer per post, and only three consecutive responses allowed before another player participates. Duplicate posts will be determined by the earlier time stamp. Matching ACTRESSES will be reunited in RED, along with the identified PLAYWRIGHT and the name of the clever player who solved it. Some FILM NAMES may differ from their STAGE PLAY NAME. __________________________________________________________________________
EXAMPLE: 104 - HOLLY HUNTER / 116 - SISSY SPACEK Place NUMBERS and PLAYWRIGHT on the Subject Line (if there is one). Ex. : 104/116 -- BETH HENLEY Place FILM NAMES and ACTRESSES (last names will suffice) in the Message Box Ex. : MISS FIRECRACKER (Hunter) / CRIMES OF THE HEART (Spacek) Helpful Initials: 'BH' ____________________________________________________________________
EQUATIONS: a) Questions -- 30% Easy / 30% Challenging / 30% Difficult / 10% Impossible b) Answers -- 99% Absolutely Accurate / 01% Garth Gaffe (Advance Apology Extended)
NOTATIONS: NTA = Not the Answer / KP = Keep Pursuing (on the right track) / QS = Quit Searching (down the wrong path) LLS -- Last Link Standing / ** -- DDC Membership Post
***************************************************************************
SCOREBOARD: PLAYWRIGHTS FOUND -- 50 / PLAYWRIGHTS REMAINING -- 00 __________________________________________________________________
DDC MEMBERS (10+) 24: MARSHA 11: KIJII 10: _____________________________________________________________________
PLAYERS PENDING (07-09) 07: 07: 07:
PLAYERS APPROACHING (04-06) 06: NEURO 05: JERVIS 04:
PLAYERS ARRIVING (01-03) 03: SPIDER 01: AUSSIE 01: _______________________________________________________________________
PLAYERS PRACTICING (00-00) 00: 00: 00: ______________________________________________________________________
QUIZMASTER MANIFESTO: Except for warm welcomes to incoming players and helpful hints for incorrect answers, the QM may not always respond to every post. Not being unfriendly, just utilizing the time more wisely by keeping the Scoreboard U-T-D (Up-To-Date). Besides, it's just too boring to keep responding 'Yes' for every correct answer, and too many posts might scare away potential participants. Be patient about those Updates -- the QM thinks and types slowly (you want 'em fast or accurate -- I don't do both). Only one matchup can be correct (MINE -- it's good to be the Quizmaster) in order to avoid creating orphans. When traffic is overwhelming, Scores will be entered in groupings of five, and Incorrects (NTAs and Halfers) will be bundled.

That was fun, but trying to fit in a shower (which isn't easy when you can't stand up) and finding out that my long awaited referral to the UC Irvine Neuromuscular Clinic was thrown in the trash because the doctor didn't include my insurance info, then to also find out the very expensive treatment I am supposed to be getting was finally approved by the insurance company, but my nursing home won't let me have it here, the infusion center won't take me because I can't walk (if I could walk, I wouldn't need the darn treatment!) and the neurologist said after a two week delay that he can't admit me to the hospital, that only a primary care doctor can do that.
i am trying to sort this out myself, and being half-blind doesn't make it any easier.
But it was nice to be there at the beginning and the end of the game.
Tirade over for the moment.

I sure wish the powers that be would restore William Inge's Dark at the Top of the Stairs before it's too late.
There are only a couple of cast members still alive. It's up to Shirley Knight and Angela Lansbury to get this done before it it overlooked and maybe forgotten!!!
