I loved Black Panther. So much passion and effort was put into that big budget film. I wonder what Ryan could do with his own Star Wars trilogy.

He would have given all the main characters a chance to shine, not just Rey. KK would have given him the boot in no time.

I would take a first year student studying filmmaking who has an understanding for the Star Wars characters/mythos over Rian Johnson. I don't hate the guy but he screwed everything up.

nah, Johnsons' direction was fine, and R Coogler is not a good sci-fi action director as BP's shoddy CGI and action sequences demonstrated.
The franchise needs good writers.
But I wish R Coogler was directing Episode IX, I really do...

I actually wouldn't mind him doing a Star Wars film and all fairness to Ryan Cooglar Black Panther was the first big cg film he's made. I'm sure if he gets more practice he can deliver better looking cg effects.

He could be a frontrunner to direct a Lando movie if that ever actually gets scheduled.

Ryan and Rian. Tomato, tomathoe.
Both directors overhyped before their time in a bubble that can quickly burst. Just look at poor Ryan, or was it Rian?

I criticize Johnson's direction as far as making TLJ feel more like a Family Guy or Robot Chicken-style parody than a serious Star Wars film: - Poe's "your Mom" joke to General Hux - Luke casually tossing his lightsaber behind him after a dramatic 2 year build up - Space Leia - Snoke ignorantly "foreseeing" his death - Chewie roasting a porg (I honestly didn't expect to see that in a Disney Star Wars film!) - Luke drinking green titty milk - shirtless Kylo Ren - etc. A lot of this humor occurred during serious moments, which made it difficult for me to take this film seriously. I should've been laughing with it, not at it. That said, my main problem with these new Star Wars films lies with the writing. They rehash too much from the OT, the characters aren't well-written, and, at best, I often feel they only kind of get Star Wars. I'm glad Ryan Coogler's not directing IX. TLJ did Abrams no favors. That's why I preferred Coogler get his own standalone or trilogy.

I just hope that he doesn't try and make him some kind of modern pimp. He was a suave bandit and smuggler that was actually very professional. I hope they keep that side of Lando.

I think it took away a lot of gravitas from a film in which the heros are actually reduced to a pitiful little band.
Though, while misplaced, I did not mind the jokes that much, likely because everybody was like "iz marvel humor, they finally ruined Star Wars". I went in expecting travesty like "Hahaha, I have famously huge turds", "Dance off, turd blossom bitch!" "I have senitive nipples", Look, I'm merry Poppins ya'all" or "Lets hide the Zucchini".
Yo momma was the only thing I cannot forgive,... and dancing Yoda on steroids - funny you did not mention that one.

It's so strange that everybody engages in bandwagon Ehrenreich bashing already, but will praise the Lando portrayal to high heavens though we did not hear him utter a word.
Is it white guilt...? Is it because D Glover is a star unlike Ehrenreich....? Is it because nobody cares about Lando, but holds Ford-Han sacred...? Is it all of the above...?
Weird online dissing dynamic that. Poor kid Ehrenreich.

I prefer Thor Ragnorock over Black Panther, the director of Ragnorock should get a Star Wars movie, since parts of Ragnorock were Star Wars like, and other parts were spectacular--The beautiful black actress who played The Valkyrie was more impressive than any black actress in Black Panther, she should have a big role in a Star Wars movie(hear that Johnson??!!) just keep Jeff Goldblum out of it!--Star Wars is probably the greatest challenge of any director, not sure Ryan Coogler is up to it despite his good job with BP, but he would definitely be better than Rian Johnson lol, who really screwed up everything
