This series is 10x better than D&D's GoT. It keeps true to form direct from the movies. No reboot or re-imagined bullshit. That is an exceptional rarity.

I finished season 2. Wow! That school rumble defied all kinds of logic... but boy if it wasn't entertaining!

This is an example of nostalgia done right.
Deconstructed what the original story was, and make it grounded in 2020.
Johnny’s hero arc from bully, to loser, to flawed leader to eventual leader. It’s satisfying.

Since the show has now been on for 3 seasons (I just finished the latest one), I think it's fair to make the following statement: It should be on TV, not streaming. The repetition of storylines (especially how Daniel and Johnny go back and forth between being friends and enemies) sticks out more when you binge-watch it. The finale was anti-climactic and it's partly because the characters had already talked about the upcoming tournament. As a viewer, I already knew these dojos would face off anyway, so there were no real stakes. What exactly made Hawk switch sides? Why didn't Sam react to seeing Robbie working with Kreese? Or maybe she did but the writing/directing didn't make it clear. Throughout the season, Peyton List did a pretty good job... so what happened in the finale? She didn't deliver a single line convincingly.

Then when Netflix bought it, they re shot the ending. To build up season 4. Almost how Netflix did “The Ranch” two parts per year. 20 episodes split into winter and summer. Notice Miguel looks heavier in the final 3 episodes. Especially the Myagi Do dojo scene with Sam and Daniel.

Throughout the season, Peyton List did a pretty good job... so what happened in the finale? She didn't deliver a single line convincingly. They'd been teasing Hawk switching all season. First, he felt guilty about breaking Demitri's arm. He looks secretly inclined to join Johnny's new dojo when offered. Then he didn't like Kreese bringing in jocks and bullies to Cinra Kai, since the whole reason he joined was to turn the tables on them. Then Krease started showing favoritism to Robbie. It all came to a head when he saw Demitri in the same position when he broke his arm.
As for List, honestly, her character has always bordered on silly. I was sad they shitcanned Aisha but kept her.
I was more confused on how quickly bones heal in this universe. Honestly, Miguel should have been in a chair all season - wait for him to stand at the end. But he's already winning fights again after starting the season paralyzed and in a coma. Kinda ridiculous. Plus, Demitri's in and out of a broken arm. However much time passed this season, they didn't do a good job conveying it. Felt like a couple of weeks.
