I don't like it nearly as much as when 1990 was the current year. Watching it now, appreciate it almost solely for Vitorrio Storaro's cinematography. Did anyone see the TV special Warren Beatty made a few years ago to retain the character rights? It's just him dressed in character being interviewed by Leonard Maltin.

It's actually a fairly good film IMO, it stays in line with the old comic strip fairly well. Madonna was actually pretty decent in it. It goes along pretty well as a quadfecta movie experience (Dick Tracy, Rocketeer, The Phantom, and the Shadow). All of them came out about the same era, and all take place in the same time period more or less.

I love it, it's a top 5 comic book movie for me. Great look, great music, colourful action, a charaismatic rogues gallery and an enchanting romance that's as difficult as relationships can be.

I think it's time for someone else to take a shot at the character. It's been almost thirty years since the movie was released.

Great form but not much content. Neither the story or the characters hold my interest that well, though they are not bad either.
Few months ago I bought this on Blu-ray since it was dirt cheap, so Dick Tracy will get one more chance. I'd really like to like this more. 6 out of 10 for now.

The "dark" atmosphere has been rehashed so many times in the past 20 years, but a 1930's "dark" Dick Tracy would be pretty awesome. It would be real edgy in black and white. A modern film noir. Maybe even do it in 70mm. Have Tarentino direct it.

For me the only weak part of the movie was Dick Tracy himself. He was too perfect, too invincible.

I still remember getting the toys from this movie when it first came out in Summer 1990 (I was in Kindergarten). They really hyped up this film in hopes that it would be as successful as the previous summer's Batman.
I enjoyed the campy performances by the villains (particularly Al Pacino and Dustin Hoffman) and really liked the sets and visuals, but found the rest of the film to be bland. Tracy was a boring hero and the story didn't engage me much.
5/10

Its an interesting film visually, actually unique because of its unusual color scheme, but it was hardly a satisfying film--Pacino was over the top

They really hyped up this film in hopes that it would be as successful as the previous summer's Batman. This reminded me of Dick Tracy movie tie-in video game for Sega Megadrive, which a school buddy of mine bought. It was a rather straightforward side-scroller. I remember it being nightmare difficulty and no one made much progress in it. I didn't understand the movie at all when it was released. Wild colors and highly stylized world design seemed really off-putting and weird. I liked it better on a re-watch about 10 years ago, but it's still style over substance. I've never cared about Dick Tracy comics either, so that's another problem.

For me it's still as much fun to watch today as it was when I first saw it in theaters in the summer of '90.

Also, I forgot James Caan had a minor role in this as a rival who gets blown up by Pacino's character.
Between Pacino and Caan reuniting in this film, Brando spoofing his Don Corleone character in The Freshman and Godfather III being released that Christmas, it seems like 1990 was a good year to be a Godfather fan.

I remember liking it as a kid but every time I try and rewatch it I kind of lose interest. The overly cartoonish sets always throw me off even tho they’re supposed to be overly cartoonish and exaggerated, just like the villains features. I just haven’t been able to fully rewatch it.

Visually appealing and interesting characters in a comic-book come to life universe, but the story just didn’t resonate.
