I like the DCEU and I have even defended it on these boards at times but it is no where near as good as the MCU and Aquaman (which I'm looking forward to) will not even come close to the success of Black Panther.

I don't believe Aquaman will match the success of Black Panther. That being said, Black Panther has benefited enormously from the fact that it has no competition at the BO. Fifty Shades:Freed? Game Night? If this movie opened in May or June, I have no doubt it would've been successful but it wouldn't be generating the numbers it is now.

At this point the DCEU has zero chance competing financially. All I hope is that the film is really good because a Aquaman film done right would be something else.

All they can hope now is that it breaks even. If anything can be taken away from the performance of Justice League, the name recognition doesn't mean much anymore.

That said, I wouldn't underestimate James Wan's superpower of making bizarre amounts of money. His movies have a habit of OVERperforming. |

Aquaman is going to be a hit. $1.5 billion at the very least. Marine conservation is a potent, hot-button issue right now. We have to look at the reality of the extinction of many aquatic species and the destruction of marine habitats all over the face of the planet. Aquaman is at the center of these vital issues. Wan is going to give us a film that shows how close we are to the tipping point. The oceans are boiling off slowly, and we need Aquaman now more than ever.
