I think Daniel Day Lewis is gonna win it. It's his final film, and it's a good acting performance too.

I hope it's Gary Oldman.

I think Oldman will win but Day-Lewis would be my pick.

from what I can tell... the one who seems most likely to win would be Gary Oldman. so unless they want to mix things up for a surprise, that's the way I think it's expected to play out for Best Actor in a Leading Role. does anyone think that I am wrong on that above comment? Johnny-Come-LatelyMy guess if he ends up winning it will be solely because they are kissing up to him because of the 'last movie' thing more than him winning straight up. p.s. for the record... I have not seen Day-Lewis or Oldman in either movie. but it's not a stretch to see what I said above being true if it were to happen. sort of like how people speculate that people in the past got overlooked for certain Oscars they should have won and then in the future people feel sorry for them and end up giving them a Oscar for a weaker movie/performance etc, sort of as a apology for not giving it to them when they should have won.

I haven't seen anything but Get Out, which IMO was rightfully nominated in several categories but I don't think will win Picture or Actor.
It just feels like Oldman's year. There is no reason to give the fabulous Day Lewis a fourth Best Actor Oscar, just for sentiment. He won his 3, which were richly deserved, and doesn't need a pity Oscar.

As long as a black man wins it, that's all that matters.

I think it should be, it will be and deserves to be Gary Oldman. Even if it's DDL, it'd still feel iffy to me.

Lebowskidoo ๐ฟit's almost like for whatever reason Day-Lewis along with Meryl Streep are sort of that obligatory nominations just about every time they appear in a movie. both are overrated, especially Streep.

I love both, and you just know that if DDL pumped out movies as fast as Streep, he'd be nominated for everything all the time too. Streep is always good though, so it's hard to argue with the academy. I was pissed though, the year she won over Viola Davis. I mean, she's been nominated so many times for much better roles and lost, only to win over (who I thought was more deserving that year) Viola Davis for playing Margaret Freakin' Thatcher. Or even poor Glenn Close who played a man in Albert Nobbs. That category was full of newbies and she won for a lesser role for her (IMO) when she could have and should have easily beat others for it other times (see: A Cry in the Dark in 1988 when she could have taken it from Jodie Foster but I think she and Close in Dangerous Liasons split the votes). Streep is the queen of Hollywood now, we all worship her, I know I do. I don't see anyone coming up to challenge her for the title anytime soon.

Lebowskidoo ๐ฟShe's too technical in my mind as she lacks general charm/charisma etc that big names typically have which is ultimately where she lacks and falls short. like I always say... Streep, along with Cate BLANDchett, are too dry for my tastes. It's not difficult to top her in my mind as, like I was saying, she's too dry/technical and lacks that general charisma etc that a typical a-lister normally has. that's why I think she's quite overrated but the academy can't get enough of her it seems.
