realistic. you can't live your life with your head in the clouds and be all cheery like Rose Nylund. sometimes shit is shit. However, you have to be willing to see the bigger picture.
Last year I befriended a child in a class I rarely had who just 'spoke to me' when even the teacher and principal had a problem with him and from what I heard, had no reason to have a problem with him. their reasons were just petty. he later told me that because I befriended him, I helped him through some tough time that no one knew about. I gave him hope. he was in the 4th grade at the time and I mention this to tell you that not 'troubled kids' start being troubled or whatever until middle school.
