So I thought this was just supposed to be a cute moment between brother and sis... But apparently it's a reference to some stupid obscure meme from a few years ago? WTF? That is so cheap and tacky. These movies should avoid stooping so low, even if it is just one line. I mean, who the *beep* is going to remember some retarded meme in 5-10 years? Reverencing the meme places the the movie in a certain time period. To us the meme is a few years old, but to them, it is kind of fresh. If you didn't know, this movie takes place a week after Civil War. In his shuttle ride, the news mentions T'Chaka's death and Zemo. That wasn't archival news reports.

The moment in the movie actually references this video.

So what are people watching this in five years, ten years, or fifty years going to think? And yes, I do think real filmmakers should consider future audiences to a certain extent. And really this goes beyond being dated. It's about the stupidity of referencing an Internet meme as if it were a meaningful part of pop culture.

Even if it was a reference to some meme, it's just a joke. People in real life make references to pop culture memes all the time. It's not as it it were some sort of a trap lol its lame and cringeworthy and you know it

You know, I watch 12 Years A Slave and was like "why are they all looking like this was 200 years ago?" If Black Panther is based 2 years ago, wouldn't that make it a period piece? Dating it dates it. Don't you think that was on purpose?

They will probably think the same thing that I and everyone else who never heard of this meme thought and that is nothing.

I think it's just a really hacky pander to younger audiences.

If that were the case they would have used a more recent one, but a hip director used a dead meme from a couple years ago when the meme would have been about current.

Even without it being a meme, the line was funnier than "laugh it up Fuzzball!".

Even without it being a meme, the line was funnier than "laugh it up Fuzzball!". Really? Laugh it up, Fuzzball is awesome!... In a stupid sort of way, but STILL! Awesome. Now, imagine if Lucas had used something like "Where's the beef?". That is the equivilant here.

You know it takes a few years to write the script right? It was used for a cheap laugh, nothing more. And if an internet gif is what passes for a cultural landmark now that's a pretty fucking sad commentary on our society, innit?
