My Xperia has been acting weird ever since the Nougat 7.1 update rolled out. Apps lag more than usual (compared to Marshmallow), battery drains rapidly, overheats, headphone jack isn't detected, and my charging port occasionally stops working. I've seen a lot of people complain about the Nougat update messing up their handsets. Maybe they're right. The problem still persists no matter how many times I factory reset it. So I'm forced to take a leap of faith and downgrade my android after unlocking the bootloader.

When you say 'factory reset' do you mean a HARD RESET? NOTE: hard reset means it completely wipes the phone and basically places it back to it's original state when you first turned it on (WARNING: backup any important data on the phone before attempting this!!!). I am not sure whether that would remove general OS updates or not though as it probably depends on what that phone does. but anyways... I would look into general rooting of the device as it gives you more control over things. just off the top of my head... KingRoot or SuperSU etc. Kingroot worked on a old phone (Huawei Y336-A1) I got as I just use it to look something basic up around the house and since it's rooted I can use apps like 'Link2SD' to transfer many apps from it's internal storage, which is limited, to the MicroSD card (I got a 8GB card in it) in the device as normally you cannot do that with this phone which is nice because the phone itself has limited storage space. so basically any general apps I let them run from the MicroSD card instead of the internal storage and that Kingroot ( king-root.net/ or kingroot.net/ (both basic downloads have the same SHA-256 hash so they are serving the same file) has some basic performance tweaking stuff it comes with like freeing up RAM etc. that Kingroot also supports lots of devices it seems and it's easy to install as you basically need to set your phone to allow installing apps from unknown sources etc and then save that .apk file to your android device and then run it as the rest is automatic basically to get basic root access etc. p.s. I just started playing with this stuff in the last couple of days or so.
