Raiders of the Lost Ark - Probably going back to 1997 at least. VHS > Widescreen VHS > DVD > Blu-ray > Whenever the 4K release is made available.

King Kong was my favorite movie through the 70s and into the 80s. However, for some reason I had Raiders of the Lost Ark as my favorite for a time, then by the late 80s sanity prevailed and Kong returned to the top spot. Sorry big guy--it won't happen again.

Bram Stoker's Dracula. It has probably been my favorite movie since 1999, when I saw it for the second time. I am sure about the year, because I had just finished my military service when I watched that movie. (We have mandatory military service in Finland).

Stand By Me... mid 90's I think. I loved it as a kid, saw it through different prism as a teen, & finally fully washed over as adult.
Prior to that it was ROTJ, & Peter Pan before them both.

All the President's Men; probably since about 2010 or so.
Prior to that nothing could knock Raiders of the Lost Ark or Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade off their pedestals.
Those are still my top 3 films though.

It switched multiple times when I was younger, but it has remained The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King since 2014.

I don't have a single favorite movie as it's just too difficult to narrow it down. but with that said... I can say that in general on the movies I scored a 10/10, which is currently nine movies, they (well at least the ones old enough) have been there probably 10-15+ years with some possibly being 20+ years. but... the volume of movies I watched in general never really started to shoot up til about the year 2003. so in other words... some movies I used to think were top notch back in say the 1990's have taken a hit many years ago now as after you start seeing plenty of movies it gives you more perspective on what the true gems are vs just a above average or average or below average movie and so on is. I don't know exactly when I first seen those three movies below in the 1990's and older but I would guess roughly mid-to-late 1990's. but I can say if you just look at movies I score a 7/10 or higher in that case I know Speed (1994) has been one of my favorites since 1995, maybe late 1994, as I know about when I first seen that movie, well about half of it, which was in wood shop class in high school on VHS tape. then not long after I was hooked and had to get a hold of it to see it and not long after we got it on VHS (I still have this tape for old times sake ). but anyways... even the newest movie amongst my 10/10 level movies, which is Gran Torino (2008), if i recall correctly I think that movie took a little while (like some re-watches) before it to hit 10/10 status for me. so I would guess that's been a 10/10 for something in the ball park of 7-8 years or so as I am pretty sure I first seen that back around Jan 1st 2009 give or take a week or so when the DVDSCR leaked online. here is my 10/10's from newest to oldest (i.e. so naturally my #1 movie would be one of the following(I could probably remove a bit of those from there but after a certain point it just becomes too difficult to narrow it down any further))... -Gran Torino (2008) -Lord of War (2005) -Open Range (2003) -Road to Perdition (2002) -Training Day (2001) -Braveheart (1995) -Once Upon a Time in the West (1968) -The Good, the Bad and the Ugly (1966) -For a Few Dollars More (1965) with all of that said... the most I could have had a favorite movie would be about 20-25 years tops (basically not really possible for me to have exceeded this amount of time given my age and what I know hung around for the longest amount of time as my very top movies). ill be 39 years old later this year. also (in relation to that 'with all of that said' thing above in bold), even trying to factor in my old days, like some of the movies I remember thinking where fairly strong when I was say 10-13 years old or so on forward, or thereabouts, while those might have hung around for many years to, I am pretty sure the movies listed above likely have them beat at this point in time for volume of time spent at basically my very top spots. or if not, they are not far from it and are just about guaranteed to exceed my past favorites when I was younger. but if any of those movies listed above are even close to 20 years they surely must have beaten my old days favorites by now like say for example... The Karate Kid (1984) (which I personally don't think is anything special anymore). in fact, I think the 3rd movie (i.e. The Karate Kid Part III (1989)(6/10)) is the only one worth re-watching nowadays. NOTE: I would say something around 5 years ago or so there was more than double the amount of 10/10's I have now. so while it sucks that some of my 10/10's dropped off on re-watches, on the flip side, it just makes the ones that still remain worth all that much more p.s. I always re-watch movies I score a 7/10 or higher at least once every few years or so with some being a bit more often than that. NOTE: I remember thinking Ransom (1996) was top notch at one point in the past back in the late 1990's but like I say it was likely much easier to please me back in these days because at that time the general volume of movies I have seen is MUCH less than what I have seen now. but I would not list that movie for a topic like this because after I started seeing more movies this movie basically became forgettable. Popeye Doyle I have a feeling that person likely misinterpreted what you said. because he would have to be rather old to have a favorite movie (as in #1 movie of all time) since 1958 as that was 60 years ago. so for that to have been his favorite movie for that long he would likely have to be in the ball park of 70-80 years old or something in that neighborhood. I would not expect people of that age to be on these forums which is why I suspect he did not get your question.
