Mad About Men (1954). Whimsical comedy with Glynis Johns in a dual role as a mermaid, Miranda, and her human distant cousin, Caroline. Dora Bryan as Miranda's scatty mermaid friend Berengaria . Fairly amusing.

B.F.'s Daughter (1948) / Robert Z. Leonard Based on John P. Marquand's novel, this movie once, again brings Barbara Stanwyck and Charles Coburn back together as daughter and father. Burton F. 'B.F.' Fulton: (Charles Coburn) My money seems to have done you a lot of harm. I didn't mean it that way. I earned it for you... but for your happiness.
Pauline 'Polly' Fulton Brett (Barbara Stanwyck): Oh, please, Darling.
Burton F. 'B.F.' Fulton : Polly, times are changing. I haven't wanted them to. A lot of people think that everything should be different, and they're quite honest about it, but I can't agree with them. I've been a builder, and the world needs builders - planners too, but builders, always builders.

THE LONG GOODBYE 1973
Funny that the guy in the prison cell--my thought was--this guy reminds me of David Carradine...and turns out it was him. According to my research, Morris the cat is not in this. I don't think that was him at the start. Morris had a fatter face. I was also surprised to see Arnold Schwarzenegger. I don't think I can look at a coke bottle the same way again.

Raise the Titanic (1980) If they made this movie today they would discover sea monsters or Jack and Rose's door or something.

Far From the Madding Crowd (1967). Beautiful film of Hardy's novel, about as good as a film of a book can get. Julie Christie perfect as Bathseba Everdene, and Alan Bates, Peter Finch and Terence Stamp all superb as her three suitors.

LISBON 1956 - A Republic Pictures film. I have rarely seen one from that studio, so the logo came as a surprise, especially in color. Ray Milland stars and also directs, with him kissing co-stars Maureen O'Hara and Yvonne Furneaux a few times more than necessary--he seemed a little old to be playing the sailor Romeo. Big role for the latter actress who had some interesting peplum roles in the 1960s.

Daisy Kenyon (1947) Joan Crawford, torn between Dana Andrews and Henry Fonda. Both are total jerks not worthy of her.

They Might Be Giants 1971. George C. Scott and Joanne Woodward. Since I've never seen it and Woodward just having turned 90 I thought it would be appropriate. A comedy about a mental patient who thinks he is the great detective, and he's treated by a doctor who happens to be named Dr Watson. Though there is some very funny moments in the beginning, the longer it goes it peters out, as if the makers didn't know how to open up the play it's based on.

Counterpoint 1968, starring Charlton Heston as a symphony Orchestra Maestro, who's whole orchestra becomes POW during WWII. The posters make it look like an action movie, but it ain't. After watching it I understand why it's. a lesser known Heston movie. Not totally bad, it still have some well made scenes, and artificial snow. At the moment avaible by Universal themselves on YT.

Mr. Skeffington (1944)A Bette Davis film I had never seen and I wish that I had kept that way. Overlong and Bette lapses into that high pitched semi hysterical Bette Davis voice and cadence while whining about her "lost looks" ! The makeup in later scenes are reminiscent of her as Queen Elizabeth I and of the future Baby Jane. Claude Rains is supposed to be a formerly poverty stricken New York lad now become rich ….NO explanation for his British accent. A gaggle of character actors all trying to woo "gorgeous" Bette make for some attempts at humor. Amazed that this was an Academy Nom for both Davis and Rains … AND there were the hats ! and the lace ...ugh !

so Holly Slept Over which had a very lousy screenplay and contrived set of situations. It also should've been 30 minutes longer. Even some of the cast wasn't really enough for some save.

Kiss Of Death (1947)
Watched this one for the first time ever. Nothing great, generally a standard 1940s melodrama, but fairly good. Victor Mature is a good fit as the excon turned snitch, and Richard Widmark is amusing as the giggling psychotic hoodlum. And Coleen Gray is stunningly gorgeous.
This is the one where Widmark pushes the crippled old lady down the stairs. Such a nasty scene like that would not likely be done in today's overly PC climate.

Satan Met A Lady (1936) Apparently this is loosely based on The Maltese Falcon, but as a comedy, with Warren William as a suave private detective, Bette Davis as the woman who hires him to find a man who did her wrong, Alison Skipworth as a lady crook, and Marie Wilson as Warren William's daffy secretary. Very amusing.

Of Human Bondage (1934). Film of Somerset Maugham's novel. Leslie Howard as the hapless medical student who inexplicably becomes infatuated with an extremely unpleasant waitress (Bette Davis). Howard and Davis both very good.
