Deadfall (1968) A decent Michael Caine film, I enjoyed it for the most part. Lots of little twists in the drama which was interesting. I did like the concert sequence, it was fun seeing John Barry conducting.

Are You in the House Alone? (1978): I thought this was going to be a slasher horror. Well it is a horror in a way, but more so a movie with a social message. Not bloody at all. Later I realize this was a TV movie. No wonder.

The Magus (1968) I've never read the book, so I imagine it makes it even harder to understand without that background. I tend to think that the whole thing is Michael Caine's character realizing that he is selfish and only thinking of himself and that he needs to pay more attention to Anna Karina's character. Any opinions? I still like the film and I saw some of the same location shots as Deadfall which I viewed a few days ago. I think both films were mostly shot on location in Mallorca.

I saw it on first uk tv showing circa 1973 or so and liked it and rewatched it a couple of years ago after reading the novel and still liked it. I think your summary pretty accurate. It gets a lot of critical hate - a Maltin BOMB - but if you like puzzles and mysteries i’d Say give it a whirl

Interesting survival film/jungle adventure/melodrama, Five Came Back (1939, dir. John Farrow). It’s a b, but the special effects are stellar, and director Farrow (Mia’s father) and cinematographer (and Lewton favorite) Nicholas Musuraca make every shot look great. (I just love RKO’s house style.) And what a cast: Chester Morris, Lucille Ball, C. Aubrey Smith, John Carradine, Joseph Calleia… I liked a lot of the movie, though the pacing seemed (unexpectedly to me) quicker in the plane sequences than in the jungle sequences. I did love the character changes, particularly Wendy Barrie’s, though I’m not sure in real life people would respond to this situation so well. The ending shocked me, and not totally in a good way; I’m surprised the Hays people allowed it, though maybe having Calleia shoot Prof. and Mrs. Smith (OK, Spengler), rather than having them shoot themselves, got around it. Still—cannibals!

What did you think of that^ movie, jeffersoncody? Was it any good? I'm a fan of Alicia Vikander and will watch pretty much anything she's in, so I'll probably watch it regardless, but hopefully the movie is decent.
