Resident Evil (2002). That^ troll doesn't look too happy...though, to be fair, if *I* had tiny people crawling up the side of my face...I probably wouldn't be too happy either.

Derby Day (1952). Quite enjoyable Comedy-drama following the fortunes of assorted characters at the Derby, including Anna Neagle, Michael Wilding, and Google Withers.

Sleeping Car to Trieste (1948). Thriller set on a train, with an assortment of passengers, some crooks and some not. Very entertaining.

The White Buffalo 1977 directed by J. Lee Thompson It stars Charles Bronson, Jack Warden, Will Sampson and a few other familiar names including Kim Novak. I've seen it once in the early 1980's and thought it was a boring mess of a movie so I wanted to rewatch it to see if I was wrong since it has it's defenders. Well, it's a strange mix of a Moby Dick-like epic, a Jaws wannabe, Western myths, Native American myths and real life persons like Wild Bill Hickok and Crazy Horse. It stretches in different ways as if doesn't know what it want to be, and doesn't work at all, though there are a few nice vignettes and beautiful locations in the Colorado mountains. A strange choice for a Bronson vehicle.

I was utterly enthralled in this superb movie which will, I hope, receive several Oscar nominations. I think it is James Gray's best movie yet, and it is most highly recommended.

The White Buffalo 1977 directed by J. Lee Thompson ... a strange mix of a Moby Dick-like epic, a Jaws wannabe, Western myths, Native American myths ... Possibly influenced by the Finnish film The White Reindeer (1952) dir: Erik Blomberg in respect of the tribal superstitions angle, Sámi culture sharing similarities with that of Native Americans. The Finnish film would have been known to J Lee Thompson as it won a Golden Globe.

Detachment(2011). Adrien Brody heads a good cast of teachers dealing with the challenges of an inner city high school. Well done, though a bit depressing, 6½/10.

My Rating: 9 out of 10. Highly Recommended, this potent, affecting, high quality film is one everybody should see. If you think you know it all, you don't. One of the best films of 2022, it's about the absolute necessity of dogged, fearless investigative journalism. I hope the film's relative lack of box office success doesn't stop it from earning the Oscar nominations it deserves. If you enjoyed ALL THE PRESIDENT"S MEN, SPOTLIGHT and THE POST, don't miss the powerful, brilliantly acted, superbly adapted for the screen SHE SAID. Topical and timely, it is riveting viewing - in the old fashioned sense, which grips from the first frame to the last. Based on the book of the same name by journalists Jodi Kantor (played in the movie by Zoe Kazan) and Megan Twohey (Carey Mulligan).

The Horse's Mouth 1958 directed by Ronald Neame Alec Guinness was Oscar nominated for this movie, but not for his acting but for his screenplay (the only one he ever wrote). He plays a painter who's genius is very much understood, and very profitable for those who owns his works. On the other hand as a person he is totally impossible to have anything to do with, always broke, always difficult, always conniving, always uncouth, and a welcher, always in search for the perfect vision to be realized. That when done seldom becomes what he visualized. Amusing comedy-satire that I've never seen before.

Mother Joan of the Angels aka Matka Joanna od Aniolów 1961 directed by Jerzy Kawalerowicz Based on the same 17th century historical incident that was also the basis for Ken Russell's The Devils 1971. Set in the 17th century Polish countryside. A convent in a small town is being visited by a high-ranking Catholic official trying to exorcise the nuns supposedly possessed by demons. Easier said than done because he begins to feel temptations and even worse feels sexual lusts, as he begins to doubt about how strong his faith is. The nuns are young. It is slightly nodded in this movie that the nuns is only teasing the priests in a devilish way, that it could be a prank, since they acts normal when the local handyman comes there, at least he says so. Certainly an interesting movie, I wouldn't go so far to call it a horror movie as some have done. Relatively easy to follow with English subtitles, but the copy I watched wasn't the best
