Sylvia Syms and Dirk Bogarde in Victim 1961 directed by Basil Dearden From the days when homosexuality was a crime in merry old England, a closeted lawyer risks his career to bring a blackmailer to justice. Here played out as a detective-crime story. A very bold movie for it's time, and very well made too and worth watching even today.

I watched LIBIDO 1965 - a very early giallo or proto-giallo. It has some plot elements in common with the Pit and the Pendulum 1961. I didn't notice until the end of it.

Bold indeed, and more so by Dirk Bogarde, who was of course homosexual. At his best, as here, Dearden was one of England's best directors. Equally ground-breaking was his portrait of racial prejudice Sapphire (1959). There is a decent copy of Sapphire on YouTube.

The Outside Man - 1972 Jean-Louis Trintignant is a hit man in Los Angeles who kills a mafia boss and then finds his escape thwarted and another hit man (Roy Scheider) after him. I have seen it before--but I could pay more attention to the interesting use of locations this time. Ann-Margret, Angie Dickinson are also in it. Even though it is pretty slow moving it has a sense of humor--at one point Trintignant picks up a hitchhiker who starts preaching to him about Jesus. Also, Georgia Engel appears as a mother kidnapped by the hit man--I remember her from somewhere--Bewitched or something--her voice is easy to recognize. Her son in the movie is Jackie Earle Haley and Trintignant slaps him across the face twice and it sure looked real and painful. Michel Constantin shows up as well--it is funny because Alex Rocco is in this too and they look a lot alike. They could be brothers, and a threesome if Abe Vigoda made an appearance.

By pure coincidence it became two blackmail movies in a row, it wasn't planned that way. A Woman's Face aka En kvinnas ansikte 1938 directed by Gustaf Molander It's interesting to see Ingrid Bergman in one of her pre-Hollywood movies, here playing an embittered young woman who was badly burned in her face when she was a child when her drunk father burned down their house. She has, by when this movie starts already turned to a life of crime, leading a blackmail ring. It's victims are those who use a hotel for extra-marital affairs. One of the gang's victims, a woman, who happens to be a plastic surgeon. He will eventually offer her plastic surgery so she will look, well like Ingrid Bergman, with a better face she is not treated like a freak, but like a "normal" person. Can she when treated better also be a better person and leave a life of crime... This was actually much better than I thought it would be, really good, and showing off Bergman at her best. Showing off both a hard-edged side as well as a soft side.

DIABOLICALLY YOURS 1967 - Alain Delon wakes up after a car wreck with amnesia but when Senta Berger says she is his wife, he doesn't protest. That is until he arrives back at his fancy estate and narrowly avoids a series of fatal accidents. And then he discovers a tape recorder under his pillow telling him to commit suicide. He begins to get a picture that he's not wanted. Familiar territory for these kinds of stories but with a slow pace (the most speedy part of the story is the credits where you see a car racing along a road).

The plot seems a bit similar to that of Puzzle (1974) which too had Senta Berger playing the wife of an amnesiac, coincidentally also losing his memory after a car accident.

Daisy Kenyon(1947), Joan Crawford leaves married lover Dana Andrews to marry Henry Fonda. Andrews tries to win her back. Well acted by all 3 stars, though I found none of their characters particularly likable. 6/10.

I heard of that one but haven't seen it. Actually there was a lot of typecasting back then with character types and plots. I know there are a few examples where an actor plays the same role more than once even if it isn't an official remake.
