Test Pilot (1938) - first full viewing 3 Oscar nominations--including Best Picture--no Oscar. I prefer seeing Myrna Loy without William Powell..........great personality but no Oscar nominations. Why? They are so delightful together. Just finished watching Mr. Brooks. It's a movie I enjoy more now than when I first saw it and I thought it was solid in the first viewing. I did think the whole Demi Moore side story was a bit superfluous and found her character annoying but otherwise a good addition to the cerebral serial killer sub genre.

I just don't think drunks are funny--rich or poor. I just don't find them entertaining unless they advance a story line.
The most disgusting Oscar-winning movie to me was Arthur (1981). He was rich AND drunk yet some people found him endearing. Why?

Currently watching Charade on TCM, starring Cary Grant and Audrey Hepburn. I've never seen it until now.
This may well be the most "Classic Film board" post I've ever written!

Last thing I watched was Min and Bill (1930), courtesy of TCM channel. Fascinating pre-Code comedy-drama starring Marie Dressler and Wallace Beery. Dressler won a Best Actress Oscar for her performance. Has some interesting vintage on-location footage of harbor activity in San Pedro, California.
Dressler and Beery would team up a couple years later for the 1933 film, Tugboat Annie, roughly a sequel to Min and Bill.

Paris, Texas (1984) : Directed by Wim Wenders and starring late great Harry Dean Stanton and young Nastassja Kinski, this Palme d'Or awarded drama follows an aimless drifter who after four years of absence seeks to reconnect with his family. I particularly liked the exquisite score from Ry Cooder, which I could listen to all day.

Just got home from an exhausting vacation. After unloading the vehicle, I drop onto the couch and turned on TCM to find "Charade" with Audrey Hepburn and Cary Grant already in progress. Finishing that fine 1963 film untied all the knots and tiredness.

Directed by Chuck DeBus of Junction City, Kansas. So now there are TWO of us who have seen this film. I find it to be one of those "lost gem"/ "sleeper" films that no one seems to have ever heard of (except us ) It was shown on one of the local afternoon movie channels off and on for about a month and then quietly disappeared again. Takes place in one small set, quirky characters, nice people to spend a little time with. It's based on a play so there is not a lot of action. You did not say whether or not you enjoyed it.
