How long will the superhero hype last? I like superhero movies a lot so far and I know they'll probably always remain popular, but how long will it take before the hype of the general public decreases, just like with Westerns in the 50s and 60s? The superhero hype really started in 2008 with both Iron Man & The Dark Knight so it's now been going for 10 years. Will it slow down after Black Panther & Infinity War (so this year) or will it last longer?

Not sure. The Marvel Cinematic Universe has been quite enjoyable so keep 'em coming.

In its current state of popularity, I'd give it one more solid decade. Then I can see a decline. Not an outright collapse like what happened to musicals or westerns.

They'll last indefinitely as long as they make money.

They'll last indefinitely as long as they make money. That works too I guess.

The way that I see it, It will just simply last however long it lasts.

The genre I think is one giant bucket list. MCU have nearly tapped out their best stuff, unless X-Men join up soon.
We are STILL waiting for a very good Superman film since Superman 2, let alone Justice League. Batman we're good.
Maybe the only real angle left is the Marvel-DC crossover, that I could see happening as a hail mary when the genre is on its last legs.

The hype...dunno...but there’s plenty more characters and stories to be made. Has anyone here read The Boys or Irredeemable?
The Boys is about an enhanced group of humans, most of which are borderline psychotic, that are a cia type of team that keeps superheroes in check. In this world superheroes are basically celebrities with no regard for collateral damage. The main character is drawn to look exactly like Simon Pegg.
Irredeemable is about a Superman type that has fallen from grave and is basically Earths dictator. But it deals a lot in flashbacks showing you that years ago he was hopeful and optimistic and wanted nothing but to help...and one by one events starts to wear down his faith in mankind to the point where he basically becomes villainous.

I can see like us getting reboots of say Batman, Superman, etcs. here and there. But I think what will happen is that they'll start to adapt lesser known titles or non-superhero comic books. Like that brief stretch in the 2000s when we got Road to Perdition, Ghost World, A History of Violence, Sin City, stuff like that.

For MCU, it wont happen until Infinity War Part 2 is over and when leads (like Cap & Thor) are replaced by newer characters who are rumored to pick up their mantle when the war is over.
