I know that the first three films were already on this board but not this one. Anyways I give this a 7/10. Weakest of the series but still okay.

7/10. It's definitely the weakest installment of the series, but it has Harrison Ford and a strong first half to compliment.

I actually don't hate this one like most people do. The CGi was often very bad and some of the characters were annoying (Mutt and Mac). The script also falls a bit flat halfway through...
But it does retain the classic feel of the series. Ford is excellent. Spielberg brings his A game (stylistically, anyway). And I do actually enjoy the fact that it's about aliens.
A guilty pleasure.

It's funny because when KotCS was still in the development stage, there was a script written by Frank Darabont (yes that Darabont) which almost came this close to being the final product. They titled it City of the Gods. It was surprisingly similar to what we ended up with (the turncoat friend, Marion Ravenwood's return, the alien's gift to the villain scene, the concluding wedding) but more adult in tone and the humor having some of that darker edge like in earlier movies. There's like a scene in the script where Jones and Marion meet with one of the villains (a dictator in the mold of Juan Peron) and it ends with a mass execution staged as a photo-op. It has some good ideas and probably might have pleased the purists. But to me, it also seemed to have too much plot and too many twists and villains. From what I heard, both Ford and Spielberg approved of Darabont's script so were ready to start rolling cameras. But apparently George Lucas did not like it and that was that.

Well we all know what Lucas is like so I won't touch upon that. What did you rate this movie out of 10? Edit: Nevermind

B+ ... same grade I give the 3 sequels. Stronger female lead & villain than Crusade, more nuanced than Temple. My 3rd fav Indy behind Raiders & Temple.

I think the appropriate wording is watered down. I liked it fine but still I think they just told the wrong story with aliens. I think if it was something like CLOSE ENCOUNTERS OF THE THIRD KIND, it'd be something interesting.

7/10
It's the weakest of the four films, but also not the disaster it's often made to be. I think the first half of the film (from Area 51 to the South American tomb) is very good, but feel the second portion (from the jungle chase to the alien ship) gets bogged down by too many characters and an anti-climactic finale. Still, Ford does a great job returning to his iconic role and its a treat to see him reunite with Karen Allen.
My ratings of the other Indy films:
Raiders - 10 Temple - 7.5 Crusade - 9

I think if they made it today, it'd be more refined story-wise. This was like one of the first big nostalgia driven sequels to arrive on the scene (along with Rambo 4 and the Star Trek reboot) and I think Hollywood was still just testing the waters.

If they had kept it a bitter lower (Alien, in thi fashion, is aimed to high and it was clear that they couldn't deliver anything plausibel or staisfactory) and had also and foremost kept LaBeuf out of it, it could have been on par with the other three. If I see his face I want to punch it...
As Germans I also liked it better when the Russians were depicted as zero-brained kaputtnicks.
