Hugh Griffith over Stephen Boyd in Ben-Hur. Boyd wasn't even nominated. His performance as Messala is criminally underrated. He was the bomb in B-H. I thought he was even better than Heston.

Unpopular opinion, but John Cazale should have won over De Niro for Godfather Part II.
He didn't win, but Pacino was nominated over both a suoerior Jack Lemmon and a movie-stealing Alec Baldwin in Glengarry Glen Ross.

Was Brando better or even more prominent than Pacino in The Godfather? Oscars. I think they get held up to a mythical standard. To Oscar voters upon The Godfather's reception, who exactly Al Pacino compared to Marlon Brando? All they are, the Oscars, are time capsules in the moment unable to project. I do think that Pacino was robbed for GF2 where he not only lived up to the lofty expectations, he surpassed them easily, carrying a sequel along with some DeNiro help. |

LA Confidential. Basinger was fine but I would say gave the weakest performance of the major actors. And none of the other actors were even nominated.
