My favourite has always been Root Beer, but for some reason, I would always get Pepsi for drinks at home. Too bad RB isn't in the same league with Pepsi and Coke, then there would be a 3-way rivalry of sodas! LOL
Mountain Dew or Coca-Cola ; these two have been my clear 'go to' drinks in the long term. when I am eating food chances are ill be drinking one of these two drinks with it. but on that occasion I don't have one of those two then Dr Pepper is a solid alternate for me which I put this into my Dew/Coke routine here and there to mix it up a little.
I generally get 2-liters which last me about 2 days (maybe 3 tops) each one. I alternate between Coke and Dew (like one 2-liter of Dew and once that's gone ill open a 2-liter of Coke etc) as that helps ensure I never tire of either. once in a great while ill go out of the norm (i.e. outside of the Dew/Coke with a bit of Dr Pepper) but rarely as I noticed while Sprite can taste good once in a while I tire of it quickly if I start drinking it day-after-day which don't happen with the the drinks I listed above. also, all of those Mountain Dew spin-offs can't hold a candle to the originals taste which is why I never (well rarely) bother venturing outside of my Dew/Coke (with a bit of Dr Pepper) routine since those are time tested/proven drinks for me as I can't see there being much left that I have not already tried (I have tried a good amount if your talking stuff that's been out a long time) that would be anywhere close to good enough to join my general routine day-after-day.
another thing... no one comes close to copying Mountain Dew's taste as they come closer to copying Coca-Cola (even though not perfect here either but that basic Cola taste you can tell they are in the ball park) than they do Mountain Dew. even for Dr Pepper, those more generic brands like Mr Pibb etc, they seem to come closer to copying that basic Dr Pepper taste unlike Dew which nothing is even close to it's taste as they are worlds apart on those attempted Dew clones.
NOTE: my tastes must be inline with the mainstream because Coke is the #1 seller with Mountain Dew being #4 and Dr Pepper #5 seller (#2 is Diet Coke and #3 is Pepsi (personally I do not like Pepsi at all as it's too sweet tasting as Coke is just right and anything Diet tastes like crap)). Ill be 39 years old later this year.
I will say that as far as root beer goes that Barq's is the most unique tasting (basically hardest for someone else to copy it's taste it seems) that I have had. which makes it stand out from the rest if you ask me even though something like Mug root beer etc ain't bad once in a great while.

I alternate between a bunch, most often:
any black cherry (usually Boylan's is easiest to find at home) Coke & Vanilla Coke cream soda (no strong preference but we usually end up with Stewart's) Dr. Pepper egg cream (it's a NY drink--no eggs or cream in it oddly enough) Mountain Dew root beer (same as with cream soda)
I thought I've had Barqs in NYC before, although I don't know when the last time would have been. Maybe I'm remembering that wrong, though. I don't know for sure.
I pretty much stopped drinking soda except when I have a cold and then nothing else will do except Schweppes Ginger Ale, extra ice, with oranges and graham crackers on the side.
