Having worked in, managed and owned several retail music stores back when such endeavors were profitable, the movie felt very authentic to me. It's definitely more of a guys movie even though the guys are far from held guiltless. I haven't seen it in a few years but have seen it several times and always enjoyed it. It's hilarious at times and even moving as well.
I totally disagree with your comment.

I totally disagree with your comment. I really disliked the characters.....like all of them, not a Jack Black fan (outside of like one or two films) so his comedy felt flat for me, and while Cusack's character actually grew by the end, I thought he was despicable and kind of pathetic at almost every turn, I honestly remember getting upset when he encountered his second girlfriend (I think) and she re-explained the events....that's probably when my disdain began. maybe i'm not a "guy movie" kind of person, didn't like 300, or The Hangover.

Back in the 1960's, I worked in a photo studio at 1305 Milwaukee Avenue in Chicago which was directly across the street from Milwaukee and Honore Avenues where the hi fidelity store was located. The movie was OK IMO...
