A very well made western with a powerhouse cast, and a great director. It's said that Paul Newman persuaded that the title of the movie should start with the letter "H", since he had been fortunate with two other movies staring with the letter "H", Hud and Harper. But that could also be just one of those stories. Based on a novel by Elmore Leonard.
Richard Boone usually played crooks in movies, but on television he could play heroes without any problem.

Real good western. Newman and Boone were great opposite each other.

Mike's recent 'slang' thread reminded me of a Newman line spoken in HOMBRE:
'Because I can CUT it, lady!'
Great line -- but would it have been a comment made in the 1880s?
