Applaud it for what? We all know the obvious lack of/thin storyline, but even if you look at it strengths, I don't think there is anything there either. I legitimately do not think it is a good-looking movie. He has turned into another George Lucas or Peter Jackson. He becomes obsessed or consumed by a project and stops everything else until he perfects it. I'm not just talking about Avatar either. Remember how he just made documentary after documentary of the Titanic.... After making a movie about the Titanic? didn't he make titanic as an excuse to explore the wreckage? I don't know if the session with the Titanic came before or after the movie, but that wouldn't surprise me. He's an odd guy who has gotten more odd with age.

Man, I watched Terminator 1 the other day, and it was just an awesome, brutal techno thrill ride. When did Cameron disappear up his own ass and stop making movies like that? Titanic?

Why can't you people have faith and trust in a filmmaker that can and has proven himself to be awesome on multiple occasions??
Seriously, this is like hating on The Birds before it comes out because Psycho wasn't as good as... North by Northwest or Vertigo.
I mean, James Cameron is NOT George Lucas. If you knew anything about cinematography, especially the blocking of every shot you would know that.

4 sequels seem like too much

Also, imagine what the original Star Wars would be like today without the sequels to make every story element so much stronger. Vader was nothing but a parroting robot compared to what he would become in Empire. If you actually gave the Avatar films a chance, you might be pleasantly surprised or even amazed with what Cameron has in store for us.

What he's done is make a horribly inaccurate Titanic movie that soils the names of brave heroes who sacrificed themselves in favor of telling an insipid Romeo and Juliet story. And then he made FernGully: Dances with Atlantis the Lost Empire in Space, with blue smurf cats.

weirdraptor, you're as ignorant as ever. That is the LAMEST criticism of Titanic and Avatar. And yet, you all swear by it.

Avatar would have had a better moralistic ending if Jake's avatar was destroyed and Jake remained human as he would have gotten cyborg surgery on his parts to be cyborg half even a filter in his lungs/stomach by cybernetics to breath/drink/eat the stuff on pandora and Neyitiri would still accept him for who she is and that they still love each other with his new cyborg parts/filter in his body and that's why it wouldn't go with the racist in undertone segreation ("Must be the same species/race as that person" thing) of having him transform into a Na'Vi which made me boo at the end.
I don't like transformation stories like Avatar and other stuff of human men turning into the same species/race as the anthro/Xeno/mutant of "we can't accept each other if we look like each other" thing as that's racist in undertone. It's like taking Guess Who's Coming to Dinner and at the end the black guy magically turns into a white man to satisfy the racist notions of the parents so they don't have to accept things.
