Seriously what's the point of getting Windows 10 or updating it. I'm sticking to Windows XP. Or installing the latest distro whenever I'm going to get a new PC.

I got a new PC with Windows 7 in February 2014, a couple of months before XP support ended. I love Windows 7, but Microsoft's quality control has been so poor lately that installing Windows updates, without first creating a full image of your hard drive, is like playing Russian Roulette. And Windows 10 seems to get the brunt of the issues. For example the Master Patch List for February 2018 at AskWoody.com has the Windows 10 1709 patch labelled as " Hold – wait for further guidance".

Windows XP? ; I hope your joking. no one should still be running Windows XP and using it like a normal computer with internet access etc. at the very least I would have put Windows 7 on it which you can still do for $0.00 is you know what to do and it will function 100% to.
also, Windows 10 is actually good assuming it likes your hardware. I have not had any major issues with the newest versions of Windows 10 on my main PC (which I had the motherboard/CPU/RAM since May 2012) and I have been on Windows 10 since Dec 1st 2015.
with that said... I did have a showstopper issue on my 10 year old laptop with Windows 10 build 16299.192 as it would simply not boot because of a screw up as while it was not entirely MS fault, as apparently they where fed faulty info from CPU mfg's, it still at least partially is MS fault because they released it without doing some very basic testing which if they would have tested it on certain CPU's they would have immediately found that those with the effected CPU's would not be able to boot into Windows 10 on the 16299.192 build. currently the newest Windows 10 is build 16299.248.
p.s. but if you want to play it extra safe you can always follow the advice of alpha128. but playing the odds you can just get the updates without having any major issues even though some do get burned here and there.
