Titans are Ancient Greek Gods.....not sure that’d fit Tennessee’s demo. Nashville has been called "The Athens of the South" for over 200 years. So, I'd say any Ancient Greek reference is a 100% fit. It was called the Athens of the South due to its educational facilities being the best in the south. Therefore it could have easily been referred to as the Oxford, Cambridge or Heidelberg of the south too. I think the overwhelming majority of people associate Nashville and Tennessee with Country Music, Blue Grass, Volunteers and good quality whiskey long before they make the connection between Tennessee-Nashville-Higher Learning-Athens-Ancient Greece-Titans. Just my opinion though.

Just my opinion though. Besides being an alliteration with Tennessee, Titan means big and powerful, which is why I assume the name was picked more so than for any relation to Greek gods. Kraken doesn't have any common meaning beyond being a mythical sea creature which, besides sounding cool, would be it's relation to coastal/seafaring Seattle.

Icebears, Wanderers, Walkers, Yetis, Sharks, Grizzlies. I would think the San Jose Sharks would object to the Sharks nickname

I pondered it for a few more minutes and the answer is obvious. What things leap to mind first when you think of Seattle? Grunge music, bad weather, a football team that is allowed to cheat but despite that whines constantly and of course dead rock stars.
The Seattle Suicides is the perfect name.

Just my opinion though. The people of Nashville have embraced the Ancient Greek connection, up to and including the construction of a full size replica of the Parthenon. It even has a full size replica of Athena Parthenos inside of it. So, yeah, it's just you.

I like to throw another name into the hat. I'm falling in love with the 'Grolars' - it's hybrid Grizzly/Polar bear. any nature/animal lovers here? true story - due to global warming - polar bears have been running farther south - and mating with grizzlies - hence the 'Grolars'

No Supersonics? That aside, probably the Seals. Next choice would be the Thunderbirds. Kraken sounds a little odd because it sounds like there is only one of them. The Seattle Krakens sounds better. If I had to bet on which name they pick for an NHL team, I would probably put my money on the Seals because of marketing towards kids. Seattle Thunderbirds are already taken and has existed playing in the WHL (Western Hockey League) since 1985.

Really they should go back to the first American team name that won the Stanley Cup, the Seattle Metropolitans. *All but one player was Canadian. Or the Seattle Freeze. Only us locals would know what that means. Wikipedia - "The term Seattle Freeze refers to a widely held belief that it is especially difficult to make new friends in the city of Seattle, Washington, particularly for transplants from other cities. A 2005 Seattle Times article appears to be the first known use of the term, though a 1946 Seattle Daily Times excerpt also describes the phenomenon. Newcomers to the area have described Seattleites as being standoffish, cold, distant, and distrustful, while in settings such as bars and parties, people from Seattle tend to mainly interact with their particular clique. One author described the aversion to strangers as that "people are very polite but not particularly friendly." While some residents dispute the existence of the Seattle Freeze, a 2008 peer-reviewed study published in Perspectives on Psychological Science found that among all 50 states, Washington residents ranked 48th in the personality trait extroverted. In 2014 a similar report by the Seattle CityClub ranked the population 48th out of 50 similarly-sized cities in activities such as "talking with neighbors frequently". The rapid growth of Amazon and its accompanying influx of largely young, male technology workers may have exacerbated the problem. It has been speculated that the origin of the phenomenon could stem from the reserved personalities of the city's early Nordic and Asian immigrants. Other reasons may include the emotional effects of the climate (such as Seasonal Affective Disorder), or the region's history of independent-minded pioneers." 3 more explanations on Urban DictionaryBut whoever names it would have to by the naming rights to a Seattle ice creamery with the same name. Seattle Totems were the previous defunct team before the Thunderbirds that existed for 31 years in the Pacific Coast Hockey League.
