I'd be on board with that but at the same time, I'm extremely cautious. Because they made a similar choice with Martin Campbell for the 2011 film. It sounds sensible on paper. Campbell was an action director that helmed several blockbusters. But they were not CGI heavy films. While some did have CGI in them, The Mask of Zorro, GoldenEye, and Casino Royale all were noted for an emphasis on stuntwork and practical effects. During the filming of Green Lantern, Campbell admitted to being uncomfortable and overwhelmed by the reliance on CGI effects. And the end result is one of the most notoriously garish looking superhero movies since the Schumacher Batman movies. Then again, unlike Campbell, McQuarrie has done some screenwriting for more CGI heavy films like Edge of Tomorrow, Rogue One, Jack the Giant Slayer, and The Wolverine. I wish him the best if he gets the gig. Green Lantern should be one of the signature DC film franchises.

If they get him, the rejected stone will become the cornerstone of the DCEU.

The last time they got a guy who directed two entries of a major spy franchise didn't turn out too well, did it?
If it has to be a M:I director, I'd rather it be Brad Bird. But political is right that ultimately they need a guy who can work with CGI.
