I would have liked another Blair Witch if they had just slapped that title on The Ritual, instead of the shitty sequel we got.

How about a prequel, with the origin tale of the Blair Witch herself!

How about a prequel, with the origin tale of the Blair Witch herself! So no found footage deal then? Or maybe they'd do like an investigative documentary style mockumentary about the background. Doubt it though. You'd really only be able to sell it on the found footage angle, I think.

Of course. I’d be happy if they made a TBWP sequel every year. Love TBWP and found footage movies set in the woods in general.

Interesting to see an 80s horror fan like you actually likes a modern-day found-footage flick. I like it.

Meh, I've only seen the original Blair Witch Project and neither sequel. I liked TBWP enough but it isn't one that I would hold high in terms of best horror movies, similar to how I feel about The Exorcist.

Yeah, but I did kinda like the effects and designs in the second half and the surprises of what and who were behind it all. But yes the first half seemed like the Blair Witch sequel that we show have gotten. It got everything about the scenario better than Blair Witch did other than being a found footage movie.

There are a lot of great modern horror movies, but sometimes you have to look for them.

I didn't see the original but I loathed the 2016 movie. 90 minutes of nothing followed by fifteen minutes of screaming.

Have you seen Willow Creek directed by (of all people) Bobcat Goldthwait? I found Willow Creek to be totally boring. I don't think that long take that everyone talks about is especially tense, just a lengthy still shot of nothing happening for minutes at a time. It's not especially good either, but Exists, the big foot movie by one of the Blair Witch Project directors, is a more entertaining exploitation style found footage movie that sort of the same thing but with actual payoff. It's dumb, but between the two I found Exists a lot more enjoyable.

But that scene was tense for me as well. I'll have to look into Exists. You would think the guys who did Blair Witch would be all over the map (no pun intended) but I haven't heard of anything they've done since.

You would think the guys who did Blair Witch would be all over the map (no pun intended) but I haven't heard of anything they've done since. Well, as I said, I don't especially like Willow Creek, but yeah it's a ripoff of Blair Witch as just about all found footage movies are. Blair Witch is a good film, and has more to it, is more naturalistic, and set all of the formula and cliches that all these subsequent movies have aped since then. But even then, it also better executes them, I think. Yeah, those directors, for whatever reason, never worked together again. I don't know if that has hurt their careers, or if there was some falling out, or what, but both have gone on to do some other very small movies, but nothing major. The best that either them have done, and probably the most prominent is probably Lovely Molly by Eduardo Sanchez. Which is actually pretty solid, doesn't use too much found footage stuff, and looks like a professional production. Not the case with most of their other work... That I've seen at least.
