I didn't expect much from this movie, but was surprisingly affected by it. A close family member of mine was recently diagnosed with Parkinson's, so I guess the subject matter felt particularly personal to me. Both Hathaway and Gyllenhaal give very convincing performances. The danger in playing a character with such an extreme illness is that you can easily overdo the various ticks, turning it into a crude parody, but I thought Anne handled the problem really well. The nudity was pleasing, although I can understand if people find the combination of sex and illness off-putting. What I disliked is that the movie succumbs to typical romantic comedy clichès in the finale. I understand it was based on a true story, nonetheless had they ended it 5 minutes earlier with a more ambiguous message it could've had more of an impact in my opinion.
