Here’s How John Wesley Shipp Thinks The Flash Has Improved On Its ’90s Counterpartwegotthiscovered.com/tv/john-wesley-shipp-thinks-flash-improved-90s-counterpart/Did anybody hear watch the original TV show of 'The Flash' from 1990 and what are your thoughts on it in comparison to the current show? I watched it years ago but it has been so long since I have seen it I don't remember much and I will have to watch it again some day but I think the current show has been better in a lot of ways and not just 'cause it has lasted more seasons. I remember the old show being okay but nowhere near as good as 'Lois and Clark: The New Adventures of Superman.'

I sure did. What I do remember is that Barry would suffer fatigue or dizziness whenever he used his powers too much. That was what he and Amanda Pays' character Tina McGee were working on to resolve I think. And speaking of Pays, it was nice of the CW Flash to have had her on the show, and even played the same character from the 1990s series.

I remember watching it back in the 90's and I liked it but I was a kid and that was the flavour of a lot of genre shows back then, watched it or tried to in the last few years and the 90's of it is a little much for me, some shows I can let it go like a Forever Knight or Highlander but seeing what we get now compared to then in superhero shows makes them a little tougher to deal with, like how well do you think a Xena or Hercules holds up after seeing GOT and other fantasy series?

I watched the pilot of Xena a few months ago and thought it was cheesy. I was ok with the costumes and the effects, taking the era into account. However, the dialogue felt a bit awkward. It would be interesting if we could get a reboot of Xena and/or Hercules with the scope and budget of a GOT. I don't remember much about Forever Knight except there were flashbacks and Knight would often visit this girl running a club. Highlander I never got to watch. It was aired 10 pm or so and I had to be in bed by then lol.

I watched the original The Flash back when it first aired. I think the biggest problem was it had trouble finding it's tone and tended to bounce from light-hearted superhero show to an attempt at realism.
I think it was getting better the longer it was on and enjoyed it much better then Lois and Clark.

I recently re-watched some episodes of 'Xena: Warrior Princess' too and they do look kinda cheesy now and I feel the same way when I watch some other old shows I have on DVD or on Foxtel but I still love watching a lot of old TV shows more than new TV shows regardless of them being cheesy 'cause they have likable characters and good storylines and I was re-watching 'Some Mother's Do 'Av 'Em' and 'Keeping Up Appearances' recently and they are hilarious shows.

Comedy actually ages relatively well, atleast the old stuff does, the new stuff wont, chances Big Bang Theory will be funny in 20 years is slim to none, it's barely funny now as it is imo, Porridge & Only Fools & Horse's are 2 of my fav shows ever, Fletcher & Del-Boy what a pair.
Xena used to get on my tits though with that fucking scream she did, kinda glad we don't have shows copying that shit these days.

I'd prefer a Hercules show closer to the mythology, with an actor who actually looks the part. But that's just me.

I don't remember it. Were the costumes better and did they have a better actor playing Ralph?

Ralph wasn't in the show and neither were Cisco, Caitlin, Harry, Joe and all the other side characters and to the best of my memory Iris was only in one or two episodes and wasn't Barry's main love interest.

Yes. It does and there are a lot of great Comedy shows you can watch again and again and they never get old. I enjoy a lot of the old British Comedy shows and apart from the two I mentioned I also like 'Are You Being Served', 'Allo Allo', 'The Vicar of Dibley', 'The Good Life', 'Absolutely Fabulous', 'To the Manor Born', 'Fawlty Towers' and 'Mr Bean' and I wish they had made more episodes of 'Mr Bean' and 'Fawlty Towers' 'cause they were so short compared to some of the other shows.

Yes, I watched the original TV show of 'The Flash' from 1990... and I loved the show at the time...
I do think, for the most part, that the current show is better than the original...
However, the new show does seem to have... a bit too much going on, it tends to be more serious, and this constant depressed mood that Barry has for the death of his parents does get old at times... I also don't like how so many people know that Barry is the Flash. Same with Team Arrow. You have to wonder why anyone bothers to wear a mask...
The original was more light hearted... and only a few people knew that Barry was the Flash and so, there was a lot of fun with Barry mysteriously running off, and leaving people confused as to where he went.
And yes, it was interesting to see the original Barry have problems when he used his powers too much, and ran out of energy... from being hungry.
Yet, as already noted, the new show can do more kinds of stories, and have more impressive villians than the original did.
There are pros and cons to both shows...
I do like all the nods to the original show though...
Like having Mark Hamill's Trickster back, and having another Dr. Tina McGee... Even Bellows & Mendez have appeared on the show.
It a shame that the new show doesn't have Barry's dog Earl in it, though. It was always fun to see Earl go hide in the closet when "The Flash" needed to quickly cleaning his house.
The show has suggested that, perhaps, the original "show" did happen on another Earth in the multiverse...
I like that.

Yeah, the original show was more light hearted and Barry was very charming. The new show tends to slog through melodrama too much and Barry is too somber.

I have liked having Mark Hamill's Trickster back in 'The Flash' and I wish they would bring him back for more episodes and make him one of the main villains for a season with other villains working for him. Mark was recently asked if he would return to 'The Flash' and he said yes but he hadn't been asked yet and he went on to say he was happy they got Corinne Bohrer to appear and he was still good friends with her. I also wouldn't mind seeing Mark as a good version of 'The Trickster' and I have said before I would love to see them have a Prime Earth episode so we could see good versions of some of the villains and I feel Prime Earth is the one big earth in the comic books we have yet to see in this show and could be interesting.

Well the Rogues Gallery is pitifully underused on The Flash, and would make better Big Bads for season two onward then who we actually got. Especially Captain Sits-a-Lot and his plan of...I dunno. Reasons?

Can the Trickster use the lightsaber? That would be a cool weapon to have on the show.

Reasons? Captain Sits-a-Lot is by far the worst villain I have seen in not just 'The Flash' but any TV show I have watched in the past decade. I look forward to seeing him 'cause I can't wait for them to deal with him so they can move on to another (hopefully more interesting) villain. It looks so ridiculous when they face him and they can't even do anything to him and switching bodies almost on a weekly basis now hasn't done him any favours now. I don't think we are ever going to get a real answer as to why he become evil and done these things or even what his ultimate plan is in the long run and they will find a way to use that device and Barry will beat him and that will be the end of it. I noticed you said big bads for Season two onwards. Were you not a fan of Zoom? I didn't think he was that bad compared to some other villains we have seen but I think it would have been better if they hadn't repeated what they did in Season One with it turning out to be somebody Barry and the team were close to again. Black Flash was completely wasted in my opinion and after seeing how powerful he was in the comic books it was really disappointing they killed him off like that. He was supposed to be close to impossible to defeat and he wasn't meant to be a fully fledged villain either.
