The un-nominated Donald Sutherland in Ordinary People, deserved more credit for his warm and kind portrayal, which had more layers, nuance and depth. So did his film. I agree!

Raging Bull. Actually any of the other nominees (Coal Miner's Daughter, The Elephant Man & Tess) would have made better winners for me than Ordinary People.
I saw all the films when they first came out and have watched Raging Bull. CMD & TEM numerous times and they hold up perfectly. I do want to watch Tess again and I suppose I should revisit Ordinary People one day but most of Robert Redford subsequent directorial efforts left me underwhelmed so I don't know if it would be worth the effort.
