It has to be more than it because they have won the most times. Or is that the only reason ?

Because they've won the most times, and because they've bought most of those championships by affording big payrolls. Because their fans are obnoxious. Because they've got plenty of bandwagon fans who wear the cap but don't even know who's on the team.

Because people hate/are jealous of power/success.
Envy.
Yanks Pats Cowboys Celts Lakers Now the Warriors.... Alabama Kentucky/Duke/Kansas... Pens...
I think it's a blast when they're 'good' so your favorite team can knock them off and break their (and their fans) hearts - I don't root for them - but I don't mind them being 'good' - makes being a sports fan that much more interesting when you get to knock off 'the hated' Top Dog.

Born in 1950, and raised a Giant fan. So I naturally hated the Dodgers and the Yankees. When Giants moved, my fandom went with them, and my hatreds continued.

Being a Red Sox fan,I don't hate them but I don't have any warm feeling toward them.
I do hate Yankee fans who root for them but know shit about the team. i knew a girl a few years ago who professed to be the biggest Yankee fan ever. She had the "NY" tattooed on her forearm. Heard a non-stop diatribe against the Red Sox from the "person". Finally, I laid $1000 down and asked her "Name one current Yankee and it's yours.". After 10 minutes of a blank look and a couple whispered helps, I got "Mikey Mantle-ly" (didn't know if the was trying for Mantle of Mattingly) and "John Maggio".

'Wear Your Football Jersey To Work Day' on Friday's here during the football season is rather humorous. I love the fat middle aged chicks with bad hair and bad makeup in their Troy Aikman Dallas Cowboy jerseys........ What's even better is the old guy with the Emmitt Smith jersey tucked into his jeans

Because they've won so many times is definitely the biggest part of it.
Blue Jays, Orioles, Rays, and Red Sox fans are often going to be annoyed that their team didn't win the American League East because the Yankees did.
Fans of other American League teams are often going to be annoyed that their team didn't win the American League because the Yankees did.
And fans of National League teams are often going to be annoyed that their team didn't win the World Series because the Yankees did.
It's like me hating the Washington Nationals or the New England Patriots. They're in the same league/conference and division as my teams (the Miami teams), and they're both usually good, which makes it harder for my teams to make it to the playoffs.
It's a bit more concentrated in baseball and football than in basketball and hockey, because of the way that playoff teams are selected. I don't hate any basketball or hockey teams as much as I hate the Nationals and Patriots, though I find it annoying that certain teams are so dominant for periods of time. Of course, in basketball, that was my team briefly when LeBron was on it.

People still think of them as Steinbrenner's purchased teams.

As a Jays fan, I despise the Orioles twelve thousand & one times more than I do the Yankees. De. Spise. At least the Yankees crash & burn, they blame themselves in the most heroic fashions. Orioles woes, & there's laughably several lifetimes worth, are blamed on everyone but themselves & their stupid owner. Building beer league lineups in their softball stadium... and for what. I hate the Yankees less than the Lakers who have birthright fans & all's they know is Kobe & LeMar Ball. I also hate the Yankees less than the Dallas Cowboys, Manchester United, Real Madrid, & NASCAR lols.

I’ve said this for years, and it applies to the Giants and Rangers just as much as it applies to the Yankees, so maybe it’s a New York thing. It’s the bullshit notion that they are a working class blue collar club, and that they are the perennial “underdogs” overcoming adversity. Why they think it, I will never fucking know. But the majority of Yankee fans believe that their club doesn’t get the same opportunity, the same fair go as other clubs. They are always overcoming the greater adversity to success. It is truly sickening even if it were true, but as we all know, its as sure as shit isn’t....

While there are Jersey Giant fans, isn't it a known thing that Manhattan is Giants territory?? I dunno... money don't lie.

You should have yielded and served your new masters: the Yankees. Hell is waiting for you. The Red god is not fucking around.

Because as far as the Mets and Jets go (I don’t know about the Islanders - do they have fans ?) they are the perennial underdogs - to the Yankees and Giants especially. As others have pointed out regarding their ‘fair weather fans’, you know the ones that wear the bright red caps with the green Yankees logo, they almost universally harp on about the “Bronx Bombers” or “Murderers Row” - because they are underdog concepts apparently and are indicative of the Yankees underdog status, regardless of the facts. Dont worry, Red Sox fans do exactly the same the thing.

The Yankees are called 'The evil empire.' The Yankees and Giants are the hostorically successful franchises in town with general laughing stocks in their same sport. You're full of shit here. This notion you've invented comes out of absolutely nowhere.

This notion you've invented comes out of absolutely nowhere. It’s not bullshit, and this opinion was formed primarily by the posts by fans on the old IMDB boards, and backed up by the universal depiction of Yankee fans in movies and television (Seinfeld not included - it’s written and created by a lifelong Mets fan) - it’s always a cab driver, a factory worker, a regular schmo in the bar. This is not the image of the richest team in the richest city in the USA. Then, to cap it off, these fans lie to themselves about how fucking hard the Yankees have it. The Yankees should make the playoffs EVERY YEAR without fail. (And, before you say it, so should the Red Sox). It’s simple economics, and in absolutely no way can you call them underdogs, and yet that’s what their fans try to portray them as. As a comparison, look at fans of the Lakers. They are rightly considered aristocrats of the NBA. And their fans generally revel in the fact that they are the upper class of the NBA, despite the results recently. They are the team of movie stars and the glitterati in LA. And that’s how they are portrayed across the board, and what their fans like about them. Yankee fans should revel in the fact that are so good, they are so successful, and that everybody else fucking hates them. But they don’t. They see themselves the same as Pirates and Tigers fans, for some reason.

They fired Joe Girardi after over achieving with a rebuilding roster because he didn't win more. The Yankees are world series or bust pretty much all the time. Whatever anecdotal evidence you have is not the pulse of the fan base. If you need a reason to hate the Yankees find a more accurate one. And Seinfeld was created by a Mets fan and Yankees fan.
