I mean, they shut down the boards. Will they implement some kind of discussion element? As it stands IMDb is just another Wikipedia site. No social aspect at all.
People do like to talk about movies, if anything it's the best part, talking about it afterwards.

I'm not really sure. They said they are planning to implement new features this year, but I don't know what those features are or what the social aspect will be. I haven't been to IMDB since the boards shut down, so whatever it is better be good or I could care less. I can't really see anything being better than message boards for discussing movies though.

Me neither. I thought it would be something along the lines of a social media plug-in. Like they have in place for their news section. Only problem, it's a spam haven! I suppose IMDb think that with Facebook, being assigned with names will put a cap on the mass trolling. From what I've seen, it doesn't.

if they do anything "social" it will likely be facebook-related so I couldn't care less. i have been avoiding anything imdb since they killed the boards, it doesn't mean much but they won't be getting any clicks from me.

Like others in this thread have already stated, I don't know and I don't care.
I logged out of my IMDb account shortly after the boards were taken down, and don't plan to ever log back in.
I have been avoiding that site ever since. If I post a link to a movie in these forums, I link to the movie's Wikipedia page, not their IMDb page. There was even an instance where I quoted a movie review I had written on the IMDb, and tried to provide a link to that review. But accessing my review page at the IMDb requires me to log in, so I refused to do and didn't post the link.
Speaking of my review page, trying to access it now brings up an IMDbPro Sign In page. So perhaps that's your answer right there.

I only use Imdb now to rate movies I've recently seen to keep in tact my library of movie scores over the years. But I do feel dirty everytime I log into imdb lol.

If I need information I know will be on there, that's pretty much it.

Although realistically I know it's never going to happen.

I still accidentally click on IMDb links for certain shows and movies when Googling. I'm thinking about installing an add-on that prevents me from visiting the site or, redirects me elsewhere. I do think that these new "features" they have been mentioning is probably being able to comment via Facebook. If that's the case, then the hell with them. I'm not using my real account to state something so that my friends and relatives can see what I posted. I hate that social media pretty much dominates most everything.

I hope someone else buys the site; or they shut down.

I don't think that IMDb is going to do anything new that will be important to me. I don't see the message boards coming back. They will continue to point people to Facebook and Twitter. Imo IMDb will try to make more money from professionals. But I'm not a professional in the movie/TV industry.
I only use IMDb about once a week to rate movies and TV series i've just seen. (I have almost 1000 ratings.) Otherwise I don't go to that site.
Imo at least, BB ;-)

Well i think one of the reasons they shut the boards down is to try and get everyone signing in through Facebook so everything's all linked up. they obviously think everyone's so obsessed with that site they'll sign up to it.
I think the best thing everyone can do is to ditch Facebook and close your account. nobody needs that site and it's just a tool for surveillance of the masses.
up yours FaceSpy!

Oh dear. Just ran by there for a minute, and they've got ads up - one for Dodge cars, another for Capital Finance. Just a mini-ad below these for BEAUTY & THE BEAST - is this a harbinger of impending collapse, that they need to run outside "the industry" for commercial sponsorship? Also noticed a site ad for helpful hints to transporting stuff from IMDb to "your site" - salvage rights, before the ship sinks? Actually, I hope IMDb is not *that* desparate, as they are making it appear; but who knows?
