NB: scabab I vaguely recall some discussion of this prior, so feel free to merge this if necessary. But... At this point Black Panther is starting to do the kind of monster numbers almost nobody expected, even its biggest optimists/supporters. It seems to've possibly become a cultural colossus so huge it transcends the genre, and if so: could it seriously outperform Infinity War (part one, obviously; it goes without saying that both combined would gross more) at the end of the day? It seems likelier and likelier. I recently read a Forbes article that said BP is actually, by some (all?) metrics, the most successful comic book movie of all-time.

If so its bad for Marvel because they want to suggest more and more. Would mean BP is a peak--but I will make a bet right now that IW does better, whether it actually does or not.
"Hollywood accounting."

I'd like DC-Fan to weigh in since he's always right about these things.

I was wondering that. It's surpassed my expectations and I excepted it to be MCU's Wonder Woman from the get-go. Honestly if they have to settle for just one billion instead of two, I think they'd do fine.

Has society gone to hell in a handbag because a film featuring "bloodthirsty" and "savage" Africans has become one of the most profitable comic book movies of all time? OF. ALL. FUCKING. TIME. Talk to me, man. And don't forget to keep sucking those lemons, you sour son of a bitch.

If BP outperforms IW, then I would consider IW a failure. Not because BP is a failure (it is the exact opposite), but because I expect IW to pass $2 billion. BP won't reach that.

It's not impossible I suppose. It won't outperform it worldwide but domestically it ain't impossible. It happened over with the DCEU.
Iron Man 3 wasn't that far off from making more money than Age of Ultron either.

Come on, don’t be ridiculous. And let’s be honest here, Black Panther has made as much money as it has because there are certain people who think it is some life-changing experience and have seen it multiple times. The same thing happened with Wonder Woman and Get Out. Black Panther had something going for it the Infinity War never will.

IW will be a huge hit. It doesn't matter if BP makes more overall. It's all good news for the MCU.

I wouldn't be surprised if it did. I'd also be surprised if Infinity War made less that $1bn.
With Jurassic Park, Solo and Incredibles also on the way I think this might be a Box Office record breaking year

Literally an entire decade of movies are leading up to this. Not to mention that the first Avengers back in 2012 made $1.5 billion, so it's pretty logical to assume that the third movie that is also the "end of an era" can make one step above that.

Half a billion dollars is not 1 step. These movies have a huge audience but it will not get much bigger at this point. Anything over a billion is a huge win.

Hope not. I'm really pumped for IW but was bored to tears during BP

Domestically sure, not worldwide as Infinity War will hit 2 Billion+

After today's trailer, I'm thinking 2 billion is a possibility.
