Oh, and just for full disclosure I should also note that the b-noir movie Blonde Ice (1948) has a similar plot, from what I could tell from the wiki synopsis. I haven’t seen it, but it’s almost definitely not what we all remember.

Nalkarj I am 100% sure. 98% certain 93.7 % positive That it IS a Columbo Episode that we all did see ! I think Before I started searching for this, I would have had no doubt that this plot synopsis was of a Columbo. In the back of my mind there’s this spooky thought that one day I’ll go to the Wikipedia episode-list page, which I’ve checked many times, and find it there this time! Doo-do, doo-do, doo-do, doo-do…

We have a new streaming service named Peacock. It’s from NBC. It has hundreds of old shows and movies. Columbo is among them and I’m currently rewatching each episode in the order of their premiere date. I’m in Season 3 now and, so far, no luck. I hope that I’ll be able to post a “Eureka!” here someday soon.

I hope that I’ll be able to post a “Eureka!” here someday soon. Yes PLEASE ! But try not to over-dose on the show. Much as I love the show nd the character, I find that I tend to get a little tired of it after a few episodes and have to take a break to avoid the "just one more thing" thing .

NOT the solution to THE QUESTION ... a new one ... ok two
On tonight's episode "Ay Port in the Storm" with Donald Pleasance and Julie Harris ... Columbo talks of having to get a babysitter ..... Has a child / children been mentioned in any other episodes ?
and ... he whistles This Old Man... is this the first time for that ?

Nalkarj Thanks for the rescue again ! I never noticed him mentioning any family other than "the wife" and her relatives and assorted nephews before ! I need to pay more attention to the details! So glad I picked up on the first use of the tune which, despite seeing the series years ago and assorted episodes since, I never noticed until recently ! BTW ,,. have been noting the cigars lately. Sometimes whole ones, some times just stubs..Never has a match !

BATouttaheckPas de problème, mon vieux! I hadn’t noticed the children comments either… I did notice the tune in “Last Salute to the Commodore” when he’s rowing away in the dinghy, but I didn’t know it popped up so often. It matches Columbo’s ‘wool-gathering’ but brilliant mind so well.

I don't remember Mrs. Columbo Kate Mulgrew having any children around!
I think the title of that show was one of the craziest attempts to ride on a brand name.
So confusing. This is Columbo's wife?

Regret to inform: There was no “Eureka” moment. Tonight I concluded the viewing of the Columbo franchise in its entirety. Sixty Eight episodes including two pilots. Our elusive mythical episode did not appear. The mystery continues in the same pantheon of “How did they build the pyramids?” My personal search for the answer will continue until my curtain comes down. Courage.

I first wrote this in the “Favorite TV Mystery Shows” thread, but it’d be better here, obviously. Preëmptory thanks, everyone… This one’s annoying me. Could it have been Murder She Wrote or Matlock?

Could it have been Murder She Wrote or Matlock? It very well could be, but we haven’t been able to find any episodes of those shows with this plot either!
