I wonder if Lynx remembers the same thing, jervistetch… The funny thing is that I can’t really remember anything else about the plot: just the killer’s plan and the scene in the airport. I really thought it was a Columbo.

I thought it was Columbo, also. And, for some reason, I had the image of Ross Martin in my mind as being the killer. I knew Ross was in a couple episodes of Columbo. This led me to reading every Columbo episode description. I was stunned when I came up empty. Then I moved on to McMillan. I guess I had this on my mind. Should I move on to McCloud?

Ross Martin didn’t come to mind for me, though he was definitely in a Columbo (“Suitable for Framing”). Only that one, though, I think. I thought the killer was more like Jackie Cooper (who was the murderer in “Candidate for Crime,” which I had thought was this episode). By all means move on to McCloud. I’ve seen a few episodes of McMillan and Wife, but it was never really my thing. I don’t even think I’ve seen a single complete McCloud episode, but at this point I’d be willing to try anything.

jervistetch , do you remember something about a rental car being in the episode? There’s a guy on a Columbo Reddit forum who says he “almost definitely” remembers it, and the rental car is something he remembers.

NalkarjI don't remember a rental car plot point. Is there a Columbo sub-Reddit? I need to plug into that.

Nalkarj McCloud sounds like a possible .. BUT ... his stories are usually New York City based and the memory is SanFran / LA ... do these tv series do "both coast" stories in which case "Murder She Wrote" ?
I would Bet My Life that y'all will be able to sleuth this one out or my name isn't Francis Sheila.

Well, I just did a IMDb search of TV shows that were filmed at several small airports in the L.A. area, including Van Nuys, Long Beach, Burbank and John Wayne. I found, among others, episodes of Quincy, Cannon, Barnaby Jones and Diagnosis: Murder. Sadly, none of the episode descriptions match our plot line. Maybe it was filmed on a set dressed to look like a small airport. The search continues.

I keep seeing people pop in and say, “Oh, I remember that episode,” just for them to check the episode list and then say, “Now I feel like I’m going crazy.” Our very first Mandela Effect? The search does continue; I remember a shot of the plane coming in, a control tower, and an elderly man who gives Columbo the book of times. Does that accord with anything you recall? Oh, and is Lynx still here?

jervistetch, at the risk of getting up false hope, I thought for a minute that I’d found it in the Columbo episode “Mind Over Mayhem.” There’s a scene in which Columbo checks a logbook that an auto mechanic has—problem is, we never see the logbook, there’s nothing about the erased time, and no other elements fit. Ah, well…

I saw "Mind Over Mayhem" not too long ago. No airplanes there. A funny thing about my memory of our phantom episode is that I too immediately pictured the airport employee as elderly but I pictured a woman. Someone in the Ruth McDevitt vein. I'm not saying that I'm correct in that but that it was the first thing that popped into my head. My apologies if I'm muddying the waters.

Thanks so much for your help; I’m very happy that I’m not alone in this. On my part, I do remember an elderly man, but (as I said) at this point I’m willing to follow any and every lead. One of the things that came to mind after reading your last post (and I may be muddying the waters as well) is if the scene took place at an actual public airport at all, as opposed to, say, a private airfield, which could very well have been a set as you say. By the way, do you (or does anyone) recall a Columbo in which a gun is found in white bedsheets (or other linens) at the end of the episode? And something about a husband and wife. I don’t think that’s the same episode, but it’s another image that popped into my mind. Does any of this ring a bell, jervistetch, or no?

By the way, one thing that really bothers me about this (and now I’ve heard from another guy who says he remembers it) is that I can’t for the life of me remember the murder itself, which I’m sure we would have seen. I find that somewhat curious.
And I went looking through Matlock episodes, just in case. Of course I couldn’t look through all of them, but even so no such luck thus far.

NalkarjI don't remember the episode with a gun in the sheets. And I don't remember the actual murder in our episode. The only other thing I think I remember (or could very well be imagining) is that the killer had to be back in time to attend some sort of ceremony. It may have been some kind of awards show or he himself may have been being honored for some achievement. Does that ring any bells for you?

To be honest, it doesn’t ring any bells for me, jervistetch, though I know Ross Martin had to get back quickly from his alibi in “Suitable for Framing.” The only thing I do recall about that is, as I said before, the thought that the killer went to Frisco for a business meeting. Another guy I talked to said that it’s the kind of thing that should be a Columbo episode. I very strongly doubt we all could have made this up, especially independently of each other!

jervistetch, I’ve been wondering about whether or not I should post this, but do you remember the airplane-Frisco-thing being the first or second murder in that episode? You know how, with Columbo, sometimes the killer kills his first victim, then someone else figures it out, so the killer has to kill that person too? For some reason I remember its being the second murder, but I’ve been reluctant to post it because I may be confusing it with another episode. Not that that matters if we can’t find the episode at all…

The gun in the bed sheets episode is the Ross Martin one where he tries to frame Kim Hunter - I think.....been a while. The altered flight log rings a bell......now I won't sleep tonight.

The altered flight log - was that a plot point in A Few Good Men?
