Beauty Salons and Spas have been a staple of films for years. A place for the ladies to "dish the dirt" and catch up (or spread) the latest gossip or just to make themselves pretty for a special event. From ladies under the dryers in The Women to Steel Magnolias 1989 and Steel Magnolias 2012Might be fun to see (or read about) some more memorable salons. BARBER SHOPS too !

Absolutely delicious, a modern classic from Lebanon, Caramel (2007) directed by Nadine Labaki. The central setting is a Beirut beauty saloon. The title Caramel refers to an epilation method that consists of heating sugar, water and lemon juice, ouch !

Murnau's Sunrise 1927 Al Capone getting a shave in The Untouchables 1986 High Plains Drifter 1973 The Opera Barber in a version of The Barber of Seville 1954, a French-Spanish co-production in Gevacolor!!! I saw a film on TCM either last week or the week before called Beauty for Sale, and some of that was set around a salon.

"...Salons and Spas" how about steam rooms ? A place for for beauty, health , cleansing, relaxation, social meeting. Highlighting the male steam room with exceptional creative flair Anthony Mann and master cinematographer John Alton Moxie turns up the heat...

An excellent cast and crew an outstanding film !! A wonderful still from the "Beauty Salon Scene" wmcclain, adding these two extras, I just love the sensational cinematography from Oswald Morris B.S.C in The Pumpkin Eater (1964)

I couldn't find any images, but Lindsay Crouse runs a 1930's hair salon from her home, in Places in the Heart. As I recall, the set features one of those old-fashioned "permanent machines," with wires that attach to each of the many individual curlers.
