The 00's and 2010s for film overall, aren't a strong suit for me. My all-time favourite movies mostly range from the 50s-90s.
2000 - O Brother, Where Art Thou? 2001 - Monsters, Inc. 2002 - The Bourne Identity 2003 - Big Fish 2004 - Howl's Moving Castle (with 'Mysterious Skin' and 'A Series of Unfortunate Events' as honourable mentions, there's far too many to choose from, one of the best years for cinema) 2005 - Batman Begins (Capote as an honourable mention) 2006 - The Prestige (Pan's Labyrinth a close second) 2007 - The Bourne Ultimatum 2008 - The Dark Knight 2009 - Whatever Works 2010 - True Grit 2011 - We Need to Talk About Kevin (Killer Joe as an honourable mention) 2012 - The Dark Knight 2013 - Man of Steel (Dallas Buyers Club as an honourable mention) 2014 - Interstellar(The Imitation Game, The Babadook, Gone Girl and Captain America: The Winter Soldier) as honourable mentions) 2015 - Inside Out (The Revenent and Steve Jobs as honourable mentions) 2016 - Batman V Superman (It's not my favourite movie but Deadpool was the only other 2016 movie I've seen)

I mention Requiem for a Dream and someone says it. I'm thinking people forgot that film came out then...

I will just go back through 2012:
2012: Django Unchained (Quentin Tarantino). An honorable mention goes to Life of Pi (Ang Lee).
2013: 12 Years a Slave (Steve McQueen)
2014: American Sniper (Clint Eastwood). Honorable mentions go to Foxcatcher (Bennett Miller), Fury (David Ayer), and Joe (David Gordon Green). Joe is technically a 2013 release, I guess, but it did not play outside of film festivals until April 2014, so I am counting it as a 2014 release.
2015: Bridge of Spies (Steven Spielberg) or The Walk (Robert Zemeckis). I could really go with either one, as opposed to making a false choice.
2016: Sully (Clint Eastwood)

I remember about passing out laughing first time I watched Snatch because of that stupid dog going crazy and biting everyone and that squeaky toy.

@smurfbate
It's cool. i know you were not challenging my rating system etc.
we seem to be basically the same here as even though we might have different wording i can tell it seems we are basically the same.
i have heard of people doing that but i never been a fan of that simply because some movies will have inflated score because of it even though you personally don't enjoy them THAT much which is why i just go by my all around enjoyment of a movie in comparison to ALL movies i have seen as it makes the most sense and will be more accurate to your overall feelings/enjoyment of a movie.
because rating something within it's genre that could end up giving a false score in that say Movie A ranks really high in it's genre, and say you give it a 9 or 10 because of that, but in comparison to ALL movies you have seen, it's nothing THAT good and say Movie B which you might actually like overall more than Movie A but Movie B does not rank as high in it's genre you may score it lower even though you actually like it more. i am sure you get the general idea which is why i just rate movies straight up as if it's basically as enjoyable/interesting etc as movies can get it gets a 10/10 and then scales back from there as your score will be most honest this way.
Yeah, neither am i.
i ultimately rate movies based on overall enjoyment to as it's really the only way to rate movies.
for me it varies, but... i would say for the most part my ratings hold steady for quite sometime, especially after a couple of viewings, but them going down or up in score does happen here and there (but i would say more down then up). i do think there will be some movies that should be fairly immune to dropping off for me but i have noticed it's happening to some movies i did not expect to happen so it's a claim i am a bit less confident in making lately (say the last 4 years or so i noticed a fair amount of movies taking a solid hit that i did not expect to) but i still am guessing there has to be some of the 199 movies i consider favorites that will remain there (i.e. 7/10 or higher) for all of my life or at least for another 20-30+ years from now.
but anyways... i noticed i have gotten better at not handing out super high scores initially as after you have seen plenty of movies etc you can usually tell about where to score a movie and whether it's likely to hold strong on another viewing etc.
10/10's for me are extinct in this current decade as the most recently released movie i gave a 10/10 is Gran Torino (2008). hell, there has only been three movies in the current decade i gave a 9 score and all three of them ended up slowly getting to that score upon re-watches (but with that said... one movie, besides those three, was a 9 but dropped back to a 8). makes me wonder if ill ever see another 10/10 as we are currently going into the 8th year of this current decade (i.e. 2017) and still no sign of a 10/10 for me and given the history of the current decade i don't expect to find another 10/10 for the foreseeable future. hell, 2016 has been quite weak for me in that i would have to basically go back to 1998 to find a weaker overall year for movies for me as there was only ONE movie i scored a 7 or higher (which was a 7) which makes it EASILY the worst year of the current decade in terms of volume of 7's and higher as for comparison every other year of the current decade is like this in terms of volume of 7's and higher... 9-9-9-12-6-8 with 2016 being 1.
p.s. but like i was saying... i won't re-watch movies i score a 5 or less (with rare exception).
I see.
i pretty much never get scared from a movie (especially if you exclude when i was a kid or anything close to this). i only can remember a couple movies genuinely bothering me when i was in my 20's and older which is... Hostel (2005) and one scene in Hostel II (2007) (i.e. the girl-slashing-girl scene). i viewed those back around the time they where new. outside of those two i can't remember anything else actually bothering me to watch.

Ya know what? Thank you. I never saw this type of communication on the IMDB forums. While I don't agree with all of your opinions I completely understand in which you are comin from. For me 2016 was a pretty damn good year in terms of movies that I watched. I loved Deadpool, Civil War, Zootopia, The Nice Guys, The Conjuring 2 (I legit turned away from the screen a few times seeing it in theaters) I even liked but didn't love Arrival. But I think that's more not my type of movie and in regards the time I watched it. I rented it and watched it at like 2 AM. I enjoyed it and for the most part understood it but Sci/Fy Alien movies have never really been my thing. For me, when I rate a horror film I tend to rate it differently then I do others. For 1...did it do their job of scaring me? That gives them instant points. Which is why The Grudge is my #1 horror film of all time. I'd never try and argue it as the best ever because that film is personal to me. Growing up I always had a constant re-occurring nightmare as a child and The Grudge was basically that nightmare on the big screen. My older sister made me watch it in the dark alone and I'll never watch it again. So to me that is the ultimate grade for a horror film. The Conjuring 2 is right up there too as I turned away from the screen a few times. Like I said, I LOVE horror films but I also hate being scared. I know I won't see The Nun sequel in theaters for 2 reasons. 1) The Abigail sequel sucked based off the first movie and 2) The Nun freaked me the fuck out. I'll watch it on redbox I'm sure.

@smurfbate I was a regular over there (Film General/Movie Awards etc) but with the amount of spam/topics created over there something on the first page was not there for long and it was mostly goof off posts which further increased after IMDb announced the forums were closing on Feb 20th. but with that said... i fairly rarely created topics simply because i just don't need to in general as there is enough random topics being discussed already. Yeah, i think even amongst people who mostly agree with each other there is going to be differing opinions on some things especially stuff like movies where there is a lot of movies out there to the point it's unlikely anyone on the planet would have the exact same opinion on what movies are best etc etc. like myself is probably unique and the same goes for you and the next person and so on, like if we made a favorites list (which i did) it's unlikely anyone on the planet would have the same 199 movies as i do (or whatever their favorites list would be(could be more or less, but you get the general idea)) that i consider amongst my favorites and even if by some very very very slim chance that happened, having the same order or even close, would be highly unlikely/probably impossible and the same goes for yourself and the next person etc. out of the movies you mentioned (i have seen four out of six (but i avoid animated movies (as i tend to see them as kids movies for the most part) and Civil War i never bothered with given my opinion of the first two Captain America movies(i.e. no re-watch appeal))) i think Arrival (6/10) is easily the best for me as the rest i did not care for even though i did like Deadpool initially but it did not hold up for me on a re-watch. basically i think Arrival is more about it's atmosphere than anything else but it's not surprising given a couple other movies i have seen from that director tend to play that aspect up (i.e. Sicario(7/10)/Enemy(6-6.5/10)) and help carry the movies. as far as The Conjuring 2... i thought that was alright but ultimately forgettable. the first movie on the other hand i mildly like and have seen that twice (and it never hurts Vera Farmiga (my avatar picture to the left) is in it ; like i used to say on IMDb... she's (Vera) an anomaly of nature as you just ain't supposed to be THAT attractive, but she is. as far as The Nice Guys... that movie i thought had potential prior to seeing it but in the end it did not work for me. i think it loses steam as it goes forward basically. in relation to your comment that 'does a horror movie scare you and getting extra points for it' thing... i can see your reasoning here, especially since you tend to get scared from movies (even though i basically do not), but come to think of it a movie will definitely score pretty high for me IF it manages to pull off giving me that high tension/suspense/adrenaline feeling but that's a rare feat to pull off so it's rarely a factor for me. in fact, the last time i got that was from Breaking Bad's last episode of Season 3 which aired June 2010. but strictly speaking movies it would have been Running Scared (2006). i viewed that Breaking Bad episode back when it aired and Running Scared probably around mid-2006, which is basically when it was new. i am 37, ill be 38 later this year. also, going by what your saying... it seems a bit of more childhood/teen stuff is effecting you. but then again my guess is your quite a bit younger than me so it's not like i could ask you to count the times you have been scared etc from movies in say your 20's to date even though i would prefer this simply because i feel once you get a bit older (like out of your teens) and experience more stuff it's not as easy to get certain types of feelings like when you where a kid/teen as it was just easier it seemed which basically makes the ones when you get a little older stand out more because of it. but i guess in terms of general Horror movies... while i do like some and see some of those movies from time-to-time i tend to view that genre as largely a dime-a-dozen because it's fairly rare for anything to stand out (i.e. as in ill score a 7 or higher) in that genre for me. like out of the more popular genres it's one of my least favorites (one of my favorites tends to be Crime/Drama and variations). but just in terms of genres in general... Musicals are a safe bet to suck (like ones that sing the dialog etc get old fast) as that's one genre i think is near universally disliked amongst us guys.

I'm currently 29 and I believe I saw The Grudge when I was 17-ish. In regards to how many times I've been scared in my 20's? Only 2 times from movies that I can think of atm. In The Conjuring 2 when the Nun shadow is going through the hall and then goes behind it's picture and then shoves forward onto Vera that creeped me out pretty bad. That Nun just looks so damn freaky. The build up and tension I had in that scene was nuts. The other time would be during close to the end of Insidious and you see the old lady with the veil over her face. She really creeped me out. So yeah I still get creeped out/scared during movies it's part of the experience. I attribute a lot of not getting scared as much anymore to being older and there just aren't many good/great horror movies out there at the moment. Just don't give me jump scares constantly cuz those piss me off. Yeah I get that in regards to animated movies. I personally enjoy a lot of animated movies even if they are for kids I can still find some humor or enjoyment out of them. Zootopia was pretty legit in it's way of dealing with racism among it's animals and the voice over work was top notch. I adore that movie but hey to each their own. In regards to Civil War and Deadpool I'm a huge Marvel comics fan so I liked Winter Soldier and Civil War a lot while The First Avenger bored me. Deadpool was like a breath of fresh air in regards to comic book movies so I enjoyed it a lot. I've seen it twice and I thought the 2nd time it held up. Not sure it'll hold up in 10 years or so but I'll see when the time comes. My inner child just geeked out when I saw Spider-Man on screen with all the other characters. Was probably my favorite moment from the movies all of last year. With Arrival I also gave it a 6/10. I liked it but didn't love it. I highly doubt I'll ever watch it again.

@smurfbate i see, we ain't as far apart in age as i thought then as i was going to guess more than 10 years at the least when it's around 8-ish. but anyways, that helps that your not too young as even going by my roughly 20+ years old standard... that still gives you 9+ years to go by with this whole scared thing etc. Yeah, but i would say you could apply that to movies in general as for me there is only around 28% (about 25% conservatively but as high as 29%) of every movie i have seen that i consider worth re-watching. or roughly... 3 out of every 10 movies i have seen long term that see re-watches. so basically... about 7 out of every 10 movies i see have no re-watch appeal for me. or to post more specific figures... LESS THAN 596 movies out of the 2,025+ total i have seen. but i based my 28% figure around 550 movies and my 25%-ish figure around 500 movies. because i kinda assume some of my 6/10's when i get around to re-watching them will likely drop off but i would like to figure that 500 movie total figure will probably not go less than about 500 or so. even if it drops to 400 movies then that would mean about 2 out of every 10 movies i see are worth re-watching in the long term. also, i agree with that 'not being scared to being older' comment... which is why i mentioned it as i feel when your into your teens a bit and younger things, at least from memory/nostalgia etc, seem to be further inflated and when your young it seems easier to get scared on movies especially since you tend not to notice things from a more adult perspective and are more easily scared etc. like off the top of my head, one movie that comes to mind i can remember a little when i was quite young that got me on edge(like sorta scared wise or on edge a bit) from was the movie... Gremlins (1984). but i think i caught a little bit of that on TV within say in the last decade and it's kinda laughable now. just goes to show how drastically your perception of things can change from a kid to more adult level in this regard. Yeah, it's just a cheap thrill with that kinda effect. but apparently some people like it but if that's about all a movie has going for it then it's going to be disposable entertainment with no re-watch value and for me that's my ultimate goal when watching movies is to find movies i want to re-watch from time to time as the years pass. based on my rating scale a 6/10 would be too high as i cannot score a movie higher than a 5/10 unless it's a movie ill re-watch from time-to-time. that's why i gave it a 6/10 as i mildly like it and i will re-watch it and will continue to once in a while until it fails to be a movie i want to re-watch and my score will be adjusted accordingly. i have only seen it once so far but it's only because i have seen it for the first time not all that long ago. i can sorta see that humor element there just from commercials on say that The LEGO Batman Movie (2017). it possible it might be watchable for me but i just don't see it being a movie ill want to re-watch which is ultimately why i tend to avoid animated movies. for the record... the only animated thing i have seen, for what little animated movies etc i have seen, that i re-watch is... Death Note (2006-2007) (i.e. www.imdb.com/title/tt0877057/ ) on that whole Captain America series... i actually liked the first movie more than the second. while Deadpool is something different for the super hero genre, so i can see that will appeal to many, it just did not work for me overall on a re-watch. it's not bad, just no longer enjoyable enough for me to re-watch. as for that comment about you not being sure it will hold up in 10 years, ill say this... while i can't say whether this will happen to you or not i am fairly confident there will be some movies you think are strong now that will drop off in the future, even ones that have held pretty solid for you for many years now. at least that's what's been happening for me especially over the last 4years or so, basically around 2012-2013, i noticed some movies that i did not expect to take a hit ended up taking a hit, sometimes a fairly large hit (i.e. 10/10 back to a 5/10. or some 10/10's back to a 6/10, or 10/10 back to a 7/10 etc). so basically when i was around 32-34 years old is when they started to happen for me a bit more than usual. but speaking of super hero movies... one i am looking forward to a bit this year which i think has potential to be amongst the better super hero movies in general is... Wonder Woman (2017) (given the trailer and what we have seen in Batman v Superman it looks like there is a good chance it will be amongst the better super hero movies in my mind especially considering you never really see any decent female lead super hero movies.). but with that said, there is not a single super hero movie currently i score above a 6-6.5/10 (there used to be some though but i think that genre as a whole does not interest me like it once did at times). my guess is i either score Wonder Woman (2017) a 6/10 or a 6-6.5/10. if it's a 6-6.5/10 that would put it just a bit outside of my favorite movies and would be within my Top 243 movies or so as there is currently only 44 movies i scored a 6-6.5/10 which basically makes them my cream of the crop in the 6/10 score bracket. sorta a 'best of the rest' category for me.

Yeah Wonder Woman is the last chance I'm giving the DCEU to give me a good and entertaining movie otherwise I won't both seeing them in theaters. She was really one of maybe 2 bright spots for me in BvS and I honestly wasn't expecting to like her based on the casting. Either she's amazing or she was just okay and made to look amazing by what was around her. I know that Justice League looks bad to be from the trailers I've seen so I'm already out on it. I hope WW is good but giving their track record with me I don't have the highest of hopes. The one that really interests me is AquaMan. I'm just so curious how they make that movie and how they do Atlantis plus it's got James Wan directing it so that excites me.

darksidebeadle ; nice to see we agree on 2010! ; it's one of the most underrated movies on IMDb if you ask me. in fact, it's only one of sixteen movies only IMDb that scored a 6.3/10 or less that i score a 7 or higher (it's amongst my Top 29 movies). but The American took some time to get to my #1 spot of 2010 as Edge of Darkness was my #1 of 2010 for a while but since dropped a bit (was a 9/10, now a 8/10) and The American climbed a bit for me (was a 8/10 but jumped to a 8.5-9/10 on Oct 20th 2016). but anyways... outside of 2010, while i don't strictly agree with your #1 spots (which it's not surprising since with being able to basically only select one movie it's probably unlikely people will have the same movies listed, especially ones that are more off the radar etc. i am sure you get the idea.), i will say that your... 2011(Drive)/2014(Locke)/2016(Nocturnal Animals) choices ain't far off for me (all within my Top 7(mostly Top 5 though) in their given years). in fact, Drive was my #1 spot for 2011 at one point but has since taken a hit. it's still solid though. but anyways, to get to my question... i am just curious if any of the movies i listed (on page 1, 5th post down), outside of The American (obviously), if any of them are at least in the ball park of your #1 spot? ; or high enough to be worth mentioning for you. like say by the standard of maybe maybe a 7 or higher score or maybe within your Top 10 or so of the given year. because just going by that standard 4 out of the 17 years i am at least in the ball park of agreeing with your choices and i am just seeing where you would stand in comparison to mine using a similar standard of measure. for the record... i have not seen your 2000/2004/2008/2012/2015 choices.

darksidebeadle ; nice to see we agree on 2010! ; it's one of the most underrated movies on IMDb if you ask me. in fact, it's only one of sixteen movies only IMDb that scored a 6.3/10 or less that i score a 7 or higher (it's amongst my Top 29 movies). but The American took some time to get to my #1 spot of 2010 as Edge of Darkness was my #1 of 2010 for a while but since dropped a bit (was a 9/10, now a 8/10) and The American climbed a bit for me (was a 8/10 but jumped to a 8.5-9/10 on Oct 20th 2016). but anyways... outside of 2010, while i don't strictly agree with your #1 spots (which it's not surprising since with being able to basically only select one movie it's probably unlikely people will have the same movies listed, especially ones that are more off the radar etc. i am sure you get the idea.), i will say that your... Before Midnight & Up in the Air are in the ballpark
