There are a number of movies with Irish themes and/or backgrounds. For example: WHEN IRISH EYES ARE SMILING, the supposed "biography" of Chauncy Olcott. Disney's DARBY O'GILL AND THE LITTLE PEOPLE, with the then-unknown Sean Connery. And even GOING MY WAY, which had the lovable character Father Fitzgibbon.
Yeah, I'm a tad early, but I'm going to bed soon, and I might miss out if I waited.

Happy St.Patrick's Day !!! We don't have that many Irish migrants in Sweden so that holiday usually passes by without any notice, and historically Sweden wouldn't be a good place to come to for a catholic since we used to behead them...

Do you still do that? LOL Of course, here in NYC, with its large number of born and "honorary" Irish, the highlight of the day is the St. Patrick's Day parade. I hope the weather cooperates.

How to celebrate St. Patrick's Day like a real Irishman or woman: 1. You might start by going to Mass since St. Patrick's Day is a holy day of obligation. 2. Eat a hearty lamb stew for dinner with some soda bread. Delicious! Irish people do not customarily eat corned beef and cabbage, though I did have some when I was in America, and it's quite good -- but it's not a traditional Irish dish. 3. Have a pint or two of Guinness. 4. Don't dye anything green. 5. Don't wear silly green hats. 6. Stay away from any eejits wearing silly green hats. They haven't a drop of Irish blood in their veins -- that's a guarantee. Have a grand day! Sláinte!

You might find this article of interest, I know I did ! www.seattletimes.com/life/food-drink/why-we-eat-corned-beef-in-march-and-how-to-make-it-at-home/
Your #4,5, 6 = Dunno if the still do it BUT they used to dye the Chicago River Green and paint the center stripe on 5th Avenue in NYC for the parade. Thanks for reminding me about the soda bread. Shall make some to go with the C.B. which is simmering away in the slow cooker ... smells wonderful ! This is the time of year where the beef is available in the stores without a premium price attached. I buy several and freeze for later in the year. Great sandwiches will follow.

John Ford's THE QUIET MAN, with John Wayne and Maureen O'Hara. Quiet Man story to share When John Ford screened his final cut for the studio's top brass they liked it, but it was 129 minutes. They reminded him they would not release a film over 120 minutes, citing the audiences could not/would not sit in a theater for over two hours. Ford staunchly objected claiming he already cut out 'all the fat' and there was nothing left to cut. They stood their ground & sent him back to cut nine minutes. Ford did his level best to contain his ire as he collected his film and fumed out the door. As the story goes, a few days later he called the brass and informed them 'the final print' was ready for the screening. When the last man took his seat Ford signaled the projectionist to dim the lights and run it. Then, at exactly 120 minutes, right in the middle of the climactic fight, the screen goes white and the house lights came up. There followed by a deafening silence. Ford said something like, 'As you can plainly see, there is nothing left to cut out. So, I give you 'The Quiet Man' at exactly 120 minutes! Now, you're begging me for the last nine minutes! Do you honestly think the audience will be any different?' Naturally, the studio relented and the rest, as they say, is history. LOL No we don't, that was back around the time Henry VIII ruled in England and broke ties, and our King Gustavus Wasa did the same. King Gustavus Wasa allowed jewish traders into Sweden, they used to be beheaded too, as long as they only traded. Death Penalty stopped in early 1900s.
