Has anyone seen the Homesman with Tommy Lee Jones and Hillary Swank?
I went into it thinking it was going to be an interesting western based on the premise and the film was very engaging (I wouldn't call it enjoyable) until (major spoiler) Hillary Swank's character committed suicide. Here I was thinking she was going to be the main character. The film went downhill from there outside of James Spader's character but the film just really stunk in my opinion. I think it needed some major revisions before it was shot. Swank's character was strong and seemed out of character that she was that weak that she "needed a man" so much that she killed herself after being rejected in marriage by Jones' character.
Any thoughts?

I've had it in my Netflix queue for a while, but it will be some time before I get to it. I became interested because it was directed by Jones and there are some other good names in the cast; Meryl Streep, Miranda Otto, Hailee Steinfeld, John Lithgow and James Spader. From what I've read, Swank's character is strong but subject to depression. I suppose she rashly hangs herself in a moment when she feels overwhelmed with despair. That would explain the seeming contradiction.

Yeah, I thought the movie kind of took a downturn once Swank made her exit. It was unexpected, but she was such a focal point for most of the picture.
