Without seeing the game - how can anybody really tell ? What I do know is that more so than any other sport, Rugby Union is the easiest for the referee to manipulate a result. The amount of times , even in top level competitions like Internationals, Heineken Cup and Super Rugby I’ve seen penalties awarded and the commentators are dumbfounded as to why, is staggering.
The down side is - who wants to see Romania at another World Cup. They are frigging boring and get flogged every time. At least Spain might have a go with some ‘elan’.

Not a big rugby fan, but I remember watching an England world cup game, I think it was the WC after we won it, and we got to the final but lost.
Well anyway England scored a legitimate try in the final, goes to the video replay, and they don't give the try for no reason at all. It was a close call but definitely a try.
People always say one of the great things about Rugby Union over soccer is that they always respect the referee's decision. But c'mon, if you can't get in the face of a referee who has just made a terrible call in a WORLD CUP FINAL, well then quite frankly I'm not sure if you deserve to win the WC. You're just gonna sit there and take it, and not even protest in the biggest game of your lives?
Dreadful.
Does anyone remember this? Have I got the right game?

The big difference between RU refs and most other sports refs is that if you get up in their face, then you are getting a red card. No ifs, buts, whatever’s. Tell your story walking pal. And even at the very top level, it’s Colour 1 v Colour 2 and every player is referred to by number. So, England is “White 15” or “Scrum White”, Australia “Gold 5”, NZ “Black Captain” etc etc. it’s the way it should be across the board. Ive yet to see a player in soccer crowding a referee ever get a decision overturned. Ever. But I guarantee if refs grew spines and started red carding some of these idiots, it will stop real quick.

Well that's why then. This is the incident. Looks good, right? Look at Prince William and Prince Harry. What a pair of bloody hooray Henrys. Their ancestors would have been making their way to the video box to tear the referees testicles out of his ball sack.

I’ve seen worse calls Stan.
I love the sentiment about the “detesticlation” though.
I’m starting to think you’d be quite the malevolent dictator of Stanleyland......

I have to admit, it does look like a much, much closer call now than it did 11 years ago when the commentators were calling it a disgusting decision. Still though, if I was the referee, I would have given England the benefit of the doubt there.

That video doesn’t paint a great picture, does it. Like I said, referees can influence games more so than other sports. With that though, he looked more incompetent rather than compromised. It’s not like it’s a new tactic for the outclassed side in rugby to push the boundaries and use spoiling tactics - especially when they are ahead.
