My favorite movies of 2017...
1.Shot Caller - 7.5-8/10 (within my Top 105 movies. it's also easily my #1 movie of anything released in 2016 or 2017 as nothing else is even close. I have seen it twice so far.) 2.American Made - 6-6.5/10 (within my Top 235 movies)
as for the 3rd-10th (or so) (IN NO ORDER), I would probably go with something like this...
-American Assassin - 6/10 (this started off well but loses steam later into the movie which dulled it down a bit. it had a chance for 6-6.5/10 status but that went out the window) -Wonder Woman (amongst the better movies listed here as this would likely be in my Top 5 of 2017) -John Wick: Chapter 2 (the first movie was better as I gave that a 6-6.5/10 unlike this one which is a 6/10) -Atomic Blonde (this seems similar enough to John Wick series as I am not sure whether I like this or John Wick:Chapter 2 more) -Baywatch (better than it gets credit for as I think for the most part it's carried by The Rock/Zac Efron and the eye candy from the females basically) -Baby Driver -Cult of Chucky (I always liked this series as I feel it's generally pretty consistent) -Kingsman: The Golden Circle (better than the first movie which I did not care for unlike this one overall) -Justice League -Thor: Ragnarok
p.s. as for the worst... not worth my time to list.

I havent seen The Snowman but I have heard that its basically a crazed film that makes no sense. There are no positive things about JC3, so that's not surprising. Snowman makes no sense but calling it "crazed" makes it sound more interesting than it is. It's painfully dull.

I'll give it a go, in no particular order:
Wind River (Definitely my favorite film of 2017. Top notch story as well as performances. One of those movies where the atmosphere of the locale becomes a character in the film, great stuff.)
Thor: Ragnarok (Fun. Just plain fun. Offbeat and inventive, a refreshing take on the character and his world.)
Blade Runner: 2049 (I've come around on this one, it's grown on me since its release. I have to divorce it from the original and accept it for what it is.) Atomic Blonde (Interesting story, solid performances, fantastic action scenes and great use of a soundtrack.)
The Foreigner (Surprisingly good action thriller. I thought it was going to be Jackie Chan's take on Taken, but it ended up being quite the political thriller with enjoyable action scenes.)
Get Out (Another inventive script that had me engaged the entire time. I normally don't like horror, but the combination of dark humor and social commentary really pulled the story together.)
Darkest Hour (Not as expansive as I would've hoped but still expertly crafted. Churchill movies are practically a cliché at this point but Oldman really brought him to life here.)
Gifted (Somewhat formulaic feel good movie, but it all came together rather well. Good to see Chris Evans escape the shadow of Cap for a while.)
Logan (Essentially a modern age western featuring super powered people, and a proper sendoff for a truly iconic character in cinema. Hopefully a film that has people re-examining what 'comic book movies' can be.)
The Disaster Artist (A movie that shouldn't exist about a movie that shouldn't exist. I love it.)
Honorable mentions/slight disappointments:
Wonder Woman (It's a great film that completely falls apart in the third act. The leads and the supporting cast are all fantastic, but the film is undone by campy villains, a video game final fight and a feeling like they intentionally tried to rip off the ending of Captain America: The First Avenger.)
The Promise (Christian Bale makes this movie for me. Not that the performances were poor across the board by any means, I just felt like his character was the most compelling, and the movie wasn't about him.)
The Lost City of Z (I feel like this should've been great but to be honest there's nothing memorable about it. Some odd casting choices, though it still could've worked with better writing. The film just meanders on and never finds itself, perhaps fitting for a story about exploration.)

I dont count film-fest appearances, its premiere was in jan 2017 ,followed by limited and wide releases throughout the world. Its a tricky one but unless its had at least a limited release somewhere in the world I dont count it
