That if some movies like Brokeback Mountain, Call Me by Your Name, etc had straight characters, would they still be good movies?

You mean if they were about heterosexual romance\sex?
It would depend on the presentation and how would it work ideally into the story, if one of the sheep herders was a female circa Brokeback Mountain setting. Were there many cowgirls interested in doing this kind of work? And how would the bigotry themes work into it. If they fell in love and were meant to be together, that wouldn't have been an issue, as opposed to 2 bisexual cowboys who preferred each others company both emotionally and physically.
As for Call Me By Your Name, a 17yr old girl who falls for a 24yr old male research student, or a 17yr old boy who falls for a 24yr old female research student? Still a bit of controversy here, even though in the country and era it is set, it would still be legal. The dynamic of the story would be totally different and the film would have to use different symbolism\imagery to portray the sensuality and not homoerotic. Would it even be as passionate or hot? It could be, but I also think if it was "straight", they would have allowed the sex scenes to be more explicit.

They'd both have been completely ordinary, quality depending on how well everything lined up. Brokeback Mountain would have been any 'farmhand meets girl' love story and probably very melodramatic and more akin to a soap opera. @toasted Cheese is on the money with CMBYN. It'd be an ordinary if well made and nicely shot erotic romance set in scenic Italy.

As a gay man I regard "Brokeback Mountain" as a soap opera which should never have been heralded as anything other than that. I'm talking critically. It deserved no awards as great cinema. Yes, it was socially important, great propaganda for us queers. But it was not a great drama.

It has been utterly over-praised and I'm glad it didn't win picture. Apart from some nice photography and music, it was made by people who "purportedly" aren't gay and don't know what it means to be a homo. I don't mind soap opera type films, ala Kramer vs Kramer, Ordinary People and Terms Of Endearment, of which all 3 won picture and I enjoy all three, but BB just wasn't in the same league. It was well intentioned only.

I liked MUNICH, but that one is forgotten also.
