I expect they have seen the growth in interest, coverage, and attendances in the womens game the last few years, and now want a piece of the action as the game is being restructured.
A bit galling that they have the financial clout to buy themselves straight in to the 2nd tier though. They should be made to play their way through the leagues.

Yeah a bit unfair, especially as they are such latecomers, but I suppose the bigger picture is it will help bring more interest to the women's game. Phil Neville says Man United are working to be pioneers. But I think that boat might have already sailed.

Lewes FC (and others) already pay their mens and womens teams equally. Teams like Chelsea now launch their mens and womens kits in the same photo-shoots side by side. Arsenal and Man City shops now stock named womens team shirts alongside the mens shirt in their club shops. I don't think there is much they can claim to be pioneering.

Pioneers of the first ever Man United women's team. Pioneers of coming in out of nowhere with shed loads of money, hoovering up the best players money can buy, and basically buying your way straight to the top. I'm all for them coming in. Bit late to the party, but hey it can only help grow the game with another big name joining in. They should start lower down though. Not right at the bottom, but maybe a couple of steps below the new Womens Super Leagues? With some kind of financial fair play restriction in place so that they can't just buy their way straight to the top tier, but have to earn it. Doesn't seem fair on all the established teams that have been playing their way up through the leagues for years, to now find themselves not going up to the top tiers because Man United come along and go straight there.

Good luck to 'em but I wouldn't watch it. Not unless I was using it as some low-level wank material.
When will they launch their transgender team though?

They'll probably stay on their feet more than the average top flight player.

Question should be how have they not had a woman's team already?

Bit disappointing that they can't just start in the top division - Why not just boot Reading or Yeovil out at the end of the season (who cares about either of them anyway right?), give Man Utd their place, and forego the usual promotion / relegation business...
Don't see why Man Utd should be championed / vilified for having / not having a women's team though. Women's football should just be allowed to be Women's football.

Will they play at Old Trafford? What is the situation with other large clubs that have a women's team - do both teams share a stadium, or do the women play in some other, smaller venue?

Question should be how have they not had a woman's team already? They had one, but shut it down in 2005. Now the womens game is getting some traction (womens FA Cup final pulled in 35,000 attendance last year, womens Champions League final is now huge), they want in again.
