I learned that Admin's name is John Carter and he's not overly fond of the constant references to the movie by the same name. really? I always pictured him as looking like noah wyle.

i learned that there are other people like me in this odd way that they too will go and see the same movie twice in one day at the cinema, if they like it enough…. i also learned that cinema tickets are substantially less expensive outside of NYC and that one guy from here that is from this "affordable cinema ticket" state wanted to take me on a date. forgot who it was though also learned you dont put "the" before the title of the movie "Hook". not sure why that is though since it was about a specific individual hook, not just any kind of hook and also it was not his real name. So why is it not "The Hook"?

I am not sure if I would say I have learned anything from being on this board. It is friendlier than the old IMDB Boards and has less bullies and homophobes but I have met a lot of good members I didn't know on the old IMDB Boards like Hardball, Admin, mszanadu, Jaynn111, deembastille, Toasted Cheese and Chalice Of Evil (who I talked to a few times on the old boards but not as much) to name a few that I have enjoyed talking to and look forward to talking to more in the future.

While I wouldn't presume to know how Admin feels about Red Martian Princesses, I was certainly was a fan of Dejah Thoris - at least the movie version (as played by Lynn Collins) anyway. I haven't read the comics, but judging by the one frame I stumbled upon of her stabbing some dude through the top of his head - I think I'd be a fan of that version of her character too. I've also learned that you know more about comics/comic book characters than I could ever hope to, DebLovesBeccy, and possess a wealth of knowledge that I never will.

I can tell you something I learned just now from IMDb V. 2.0: that there is a comic book series about Dejah Thoris! Since I've always loved the Barsoom novels, I felt compelled to see John Carter (despite my belief that it had a lame, timid title), and--not being a purist--I enjoyed the movie. However, seeing the covers of these new (to me, anyway) Dejah Thoris comics revives an old question, born in the long-ago days when DC briefly ran a series (in supporting position) based on the adventures of John Carter. I believe one of the artists was Murphy Anderson. Anyway, as beautiful as I found "Murph"'s version of Dejah Thoris--though certainly more modestly attired than the recently published one --I also found it distracting that her perfectly-sculpted abdomen sported a navel...which also appears true of the newer DJ. When a reader's letter inquired as to the illogical presence of that feature--illogical because Dejah was, like all other Barsoomian humanoids, oviparous (i.e., hatched from an egg)--the letter-writer was flippantly answered by the editor "That's not a navel, it's a dimple!" So...what do the creators of the current iteration of DJ have to say about that "dimple"? Inquiring minds want to know. Okay, back to a more on-topic response. What I Have Learned Here on IMDb V. 2.0 Negative: that fanboys and trolls did not vanish with the original IMDb Message Boards; that even here, even now, some posters continue to support and defend the U.S.'s current political regime. Positive: that even an eternal techno-neo such as moi can get the hang of posting images--including moving ones!--in this sort of environment; that there can be posters just as amusing, clever, and nice as, and sometimes even more so than, those on the original IMDb.

Well maybe not movies on the first group date with a bunch of strangers from the internet, there IS still a chance one/many/all of you to turn out to be a chainsaw loving freaks, so first group date should maybe be somewhere not only public but also broad daylight, but hey, third date, thats a movie (and possible death by chainsaw, but … we all gotta go somehow, right?

Thanks Chalice. I appreciate that. I have read a lot of comic books over the years and read a lot of female lead series and series under independent companies like Image Comics in the 90s so I do know a lot about them and it is great to see we finally have titles such as 'Fathom' and 'Soulfire' which are two I love coming to the big screen. A lot of people who don't read comic books don't realise how big the comic book genre is and there are a lot of different genres outside of the superhero genre like Horror, Fantasy, Science Fiction, Action and Thriller and those have always been the genres I have liked and I think you would be a fan of the 'Dejah Thoris' comic books too. You will probably never catch up to me 'cause I have 30 + years of experience reading comic books and have read a lot during that time but there are a lot of comic books that are worth checking out and comic books are not just for children. A lot of the independent series I have told you about like 'Witchblade' and 'Hack/Slash' were written for an adult audience and some Horror comics are very graphic with blood and guts and are more violent than anything we have seen in movies. They also don't shy away from nudity and 'Sunstone' is a good example of that. Oh yes, I definitely know that I will never catch up to you. I'm in awe of not only how much knowledge of comic books you've gained over the course of your 30+ years of reading them, but that you can retain this information/remember all these facts - it's pretty amazing. I used to have a real good memory way back in my days at school (though, granted, a good percentage of that memory was taken up with BtVS quotes), but now my memory seems to be getting worse every day, sadly. And I totally know what you mean about comics that aren't for kids. One I forgot to mention in this thread that I'd read and enjoyed had some quite gruesome parts, but I enjoyed it nevertheless - primarily because it was about three animals (a dog, cat & rabbit) armoured up like living weapons and taking out a bunch of humans. Of course, there were some unpleasant parts regarding the animals, but on the whole I just enjoyed seeing them as the 'heroes' of the story and kicking major butt. It's called We3. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/We3 The dog was probably my favourite. There were several instances where he really pulled at the heartstrings. But I also loved the cat - who was delightfully crazed. It had some really interesting ways of setting out the panels (not just the usual squares).

I learned from threads like this one that there is still space for civil discourse. Well done, my friends!

But I also loved the cat - who was delightfully crazed. It had some really interesting ways of setting out the panels (not just the usual squares). Well, that is very nice of you to say. I have gained a lot of knowledge from reading comic books and I think one of the main reasons why I can remember so much about them is 'cause I enjoyed them and I tend to have a good memory with things like this for some unknown reason () and I also know heaps about music and the history of all my favourite artists and bands too as you are probably aware and have heaps of albums ranging from all different genres except for Rap and Techno. The funny thing is I remember more about the comic books than the movies and it could be 'cause I haven't enjoyed the movies as much but I found 'Suicide Squad' and 'Guardians of the Galaxy 1 and 2' to be completely forgettable apart from Margot Robbie's performance as Harley Quinn and I don't remember much of the DCEU or MCU movies like I do with DC and Marvel comic books which I can remember events from that I read back in the 80s and 90s apart from a few exceptions 'cause I don't find them to be as good. I think I may have heard of 'We3' but have never read it so thank you for sharing that with me and I will be sure to check it out sometime when I have finished reading the graphic novels I am reading now.
