"anyone interested ... can back up and read the discussion between Joe and I that starts..."
Which is grammatically correct
Between Joe and I ? or Between Joe and me ?
not a trick question merely a nagging one.

Howdy, Bat…
I’m fairly sure it’s “between Joe and me.” We use the objective pronoun after a preposition like between, e.g., “between you and me.”

SalzmankThat's how I understand it as well. Interestingly (to me, anyway) the quote was from one of the more virulent of the ever vigilant Grammar Police. Thanks

Saying things like, "Just between you and I" is nails-on-a-blackboard stuff (like the scariest scene in "Jaws" at the meeting where Quint first appears. His attention getting stunt put me under the theater seat).

<Vigorous head nods > ..... lucky the soul who is not in the room with me when newscasters do one of those n-o-t-b goofs!
This one was particularly eye-catching because it was posted by one of the dreaded correctors of spelling, grammar AND punctuation on one of the more obscure boards. Thanks for the confirmation !
