Didn't they also dump Marlins Man? For heaven's sake, why? Yeah they ditched Marlins Man, they also fired the mascot of all things. Apparently Jeter even tried to remove the home run sculpture thing in the outfield but he was blocked from doing so by the Miami Dade officials. Jeter wants to remove all ties to the previous ownership for some reason, I get that we need to rebuild but there is no excuse for some of the moves Jeter has made and it makes no sense to fire broadcasters, mascots and the like. Or to fire a scout while he’s in the hospital awaiting a kidney transplant. I can see Jeter wanting to get rid of all ties to the brilliant (!) leadership of Jeffrey Loria. This team has had a history of "rollercoaster" management. "Hey we're good! Hey, they traded everyone, we stink" But you don't make changes just to make changes.

Grichuk goes yard. Now has as many April 2017 HRs as his RF predecessor & it's still March.
Homer fantasy pick for me btw. It's like cheating - selecting new Blue Jays in fantasy late because no one remembers how easy it is it to hit here unless you're watching 162.

Scherzer with a great start to his season today, 6 innings and no runs allowed with 10 K, and the Nats bullpen of Kintzler, Madson and Doolittle looked strong as well, I think now that they’ve solidified their bullpen this may be the Nats year to get to the World Series.

Marlins just finished a marathon 17 inning game against the Cubs and got their first win of the year by a final score of 2-1. Some outstanding relief pitching from the Fish, the bullpen is the one position we are actually pretty good at, and Caleb Smith made a nice first start which was promising to see. Our hitting is nonexistent pretty much but we outlasted the Cubs and got our first win of the season. The Cubs in this series are showing why I am not high on them, they are a home run or bust team that strikes out way too much, sure it’s just 2 games but this is what the Cubs were like last year and I don’t think anything has changed.
Rockies-D-Backs is fun as always, lots of offense at Chase Field once again.

SF-LA Friday was a great 1-0 game to watch. First since 1943 to win first 2 games 1-0. Both runs via Joe Panik homeruns, off Kershaw & Jansen no less.

I think Judge is a bit overrated, not enough base hitting and strikes out way too much.
I’m looking forward to seeing how the Fish do after their 17 inning marathon game last night, Despaigne going for 2 wins in one day tonight.

He's a giant, long arms... that has to shorten the ball to hitting zone yes? Which means he has to swing even faster than everyone else too?

roy hobbs...
err...my fault - rhys hoskins with his 3rd ribbie of the year - phightens up 2-1 in the first on the Bravos.
only 3 games in but it's nice to see a little offense from this team thus far even though their bullpen imploded in Game 1 after they were up 5-0 late in the game.
my likey - and they kept Kingery up as opposed to sending him back down to Triple A to start the season so they'd have more leverage come contract time and signed him longterm instead - bold move - showing the fanbase they're ready to start winning again and cash isn't a factor.

I don’t understand combined no hitters. Why the hell would you take a pitcher out?

I don’t understand combined no hitters. Why the hell would you take a pitcher out? Pitch count. You don't want to blow out a starter's arm on a no-hitter with 140+ pitches. In the end, it's all about a win and a no-hitter doesn't give you bonus points. Not saying it's right or wrong, it's just how it is.

Fish split their opening series against the Cubs 2-2. Nice start to the season for us actually, we have put up a nice fight in each game, our newer, younger guys are doing pretty well, Dillon Peters with an excellent start today, I think he is going to become a good pitcher, I like what I saw from him last year as well, Caleb Smith also did very well in his first start Friday night. Our bullpen is the one area we aren’t weak at, some very solid guys there. We still have absolutely no power hitting whatsoever and our offense is weak but some of the newer guys are off to a nice start to the season.

If they get one hit, it's a waste. lols Yankees 'Thhheeeee Yannnnnkeeeees loooooose' Watching Angels-A's, Ohtani hitting 100mph fastballs. Backstop ads are 95% in Japanese, only the word 'Air' in English, whatever it is they're selling. Drum beats in the crowd... I'm guessing it's Angels Ohtani fans & not an A's thing?

Steven Matz with a dud to start the year. For the Mets to get anywhere this season, they need to go .500 in games not started by Syndergaard and deGrom. Hardly a tall order.....right?
The thing with Matz, he still just has no command the second he walks someone or gives up a hit, it's like the wheels come off. You compare that to deGrom on Saturday who clearly didn't have his best stuff, but gutted through 5.2 innings, giving up one run, walking one and striking out 7. Matz was up with his fastball and every time he didn't get a close call, you could see him visibly get annoyed. Gotta get past that at this level, sport. You've had enough experience now to know that you have to win games without your best stuff (and frankly, you never really have your best stuff).
Harvey goes tonight against the Phils. Hardly the flamethrower with the dominant, late-breaking heat anymore, it's time for Harvey to re-invent himself as something of a finesse guy in his walk year. You don't have to throw 98 all the time, 95 is just fine is he can generate enough separation on his once-devastating changeup. I'm pulling for him (obviously), even though he's a giant douche.
My first look at the Phils this year. Let's see how Gabe Kapler can totally botch this one. Maybe an inadvertent double switch in the 4th inning.

I know we are only 3 games into a long season, but I am already done with Gabe “Don’t Call Me Chip Kelly” Kapler. Has any manager in the history of the game started his career off in a worse fashion? I’m including minors, college, little league, and t-ball in that. What a fucking joke this guy is. When an umpire reprimands your manager and the ump is the good guy in the story you’re a fucking joke. What an embarrassment. Three games and what could have been a promising season is already ruined for me. My level of hatred of this guy and the new-school obsessed gm Klentak is off the charts. God dammit.

I'm all for using your bullpen based on matchups, but you can't just yank your starters out of there for no reason.....after letting them bat in the previous inning.......thus ending the big inning they were having.......at, what, 70 pitches? You will burn out your bullpen by Memorial Day, basically ending your season right then and there. And what happened the other day is just, I dunno, that just can't happen. It's so baffling I don't even know what to say about it. One of the beauties of baseball is that you see something new every day. Well, we definitely saw something new the other day, for better or for worse.

Mets Phillies suspended due to snow. Is it still snowing there? It snowed here like a bitch this morning, we got about 4 inches from 6 am - 10 am, and then it just stopped, the sun came out and now it's a beautiful afternoon with all the snow already melted. Bizarro land.
