It took me several attempts to get past the insanely dull beginning but once Thor was godnapped it was a lot of fun. Like even the best mcu movies though it's very forgettable. I think the plot was about Thor's mom teaming up with the devil to take over and/or destroy Asgard. No clue why and it doesn't matter. For some reason the original white supremacists racist uber lords aka the Asgardians shoehorned some black folks into their Klan and Hannibal Lecter was murdered or was resurrected. All that stuff was mind numbingly dull and pointless since all anyone wants in a mcu movie is non stop one liners, sight gags and "Hulk smash".
Easily the best of the Thor movies but the other 2 sucked.

You say this like its a bad thing. yes, the romance was pretty mediocre. But getting rid of it like this in the finale by saying "the previous film were crap, lets forget about them" is showing how un-planned and messy these films are. There is no coherent vision, just excessive fanservice pandering. The star crossed lovers storyline, warts and all, was a central plot element and what distinguished Thor and his character development from the other cookie-cutter Marvel heroes. To be fair, this is a general issue, eg in the Cap trilogy the main villain Hydra (incredibly lame and generic villain) plays no part in the final movie anymore, even Cap is sidelined here in favor of Iron Man's mommy issues story, the Avengers clobbering and Panther and Spider-Boy getting origin stories...

I don't know, but I always got the feeling the romance between Thor and Jane was never going to work out in the long run (and for me, personally that whole subplot dragged down the first two Thor films because Hemsworth and Portman had ZERO chemistry). I'm glad they did away with all the superfluous elements that had nowhere else to go (Thor & Jane, Thor's family problems) and focused on making a light-hearted space adventure. Worked for me.

Worked for me. fair enough, I hoped at least to get a Red Wedding to close the dangling thread somehow. They killed Portman off in Star Wars why not here, would have played well with the Ragnorok theme, but no use fighting Fragglerock I guess.
