Mine is very boring attached to the door and is mechanical and gives when button pushed in sound of klang and backwards a klung sound. I came to think of this after watching Teacher's Pet 1958, where the Gig Young character had a sort of glockenspiel doorbell device hanging on a wall in his apartment. Then I remembered that back in the 1960s people used to have those things that played a bing-bong-bing melody (Now offcourse it's done with some kind of electronics). I remember I was at a birthday party, I might have been 6 or 7 years, and I kept pinging on those chimes, and the mother said to me "If young Teleadm don't stop playing with the chimes he will not be welcome here anymore" LOL Offcourse there are others who have a Clap on their doors, please don't let it be a lion's head with a ring in his mouth! On old friend of mine when he bought a house installed a doorbell that played Willem Tell overture, I guess that was fun the first 20 times... How about You???

OUrs plays 60 different tunes, lots of classical pieces by Mozart, Beethoven, Grieg, Mendelssohn etc, folk tunes like Greensleeves, nursery rhymes like Oranges and Lemons, some Christmas carols, and a selection of national, anthems. WE've had it since 1989 and it has never gone wrong, it's very good value. WE have a door knocker as well but it is only a boring plain one, I would like a lion's head.

A brass one from Lowe's with the four seasons depicted on it (sun, flowers, leaves, snowflake). It sounds exactly like the one on The Golden Girls, apparently, because it took the dog about a year to figure out that she didn't need to bark anytime guests showed up at the door on the show.

and a sign on the door itself that says : PLEASE RING BELL <-------------- (arrow is pointing at THE BUZZER )
People STILL stand on the porch and tap gently on the door ~ which cannot be heard unless one is standing right at the door. The "bell" rings in basement and both floors of house.

Mine seems to be an old school bell. It is in our hallway and it rings loud enough to wake the dead. My husband and I jump a mile when someone rings it.

Just a regular, battery-operated "ding-dong". Seems to do the job.

None...now. We used to have one, but it broke and we've never got around to fixing it or replacing it. We do have a sign explaining that the bell's out of order, which always reminds me of The Wizard of Oz, when our intrepid heroes first arrive at the gates of Emerald City.
