And now we reach the Season 2 finale, and my goodness, I had forgotten just how great this episode is!
Some thoughts:
- At 00:54 (what we later discover to be fake) Jim throws his hat at a bandit, which causes him to drop his gun. Is the fake Jim supposed to have a steel rim in his hat ala Oddjob?
- How does Dr. Loveless avoid spilling his drink when the coffin is in a horizontal position?
- Belladonna, played by Marianna Hill, was oh so hot.
- Jim's line at 31:16, "They're armed I suppose" sounds dubbed. But it sure doesn't sound like Robert Conrad. It seems like this line was dubbed by another actor!
- I laughed out loud when, as Dr. Loveless recites a litany of reasons West wearies him, Jim responds (at 36:05) with, "You're not gonna run out of reasons now, Doctor?"
- At 38:08, how very convenient that both horses are behind the wall the agents climb over. I say that because Jim is the first over the wall, but Artie must be the one who left the horses there. And at no time does Artie convey to Jim the location of the horses. In fact, Artie (disguised as Fargo) originally heads for the front gate, leading one to believe the horses are in that location.
- At 39:30, the exterior of the Territorial Communications Center looks like the hotels we've been seeing this season. Interestingly, after riding to get there, Jim and Artie arrive on foot.
- I also laughed out loud when, at 41:17, Artie KO's one of Loveless' men with a sign that reads, ironically, FIRST AID DEPARTMENT.
- The heart of the Territorial Communications Center once again recycles some of Dr. Faustina's lab equipment and sound effects.
- I remembered that Loveless escapes in a baby carriage at the end.
Season 2 Recap:
Overall Season 2 was excellent. Looking back at my earlier comments, I can summarize my opinions on the season as follows:
- Several all-time classics including "TNOT Bottomless Pit", "TNOT Watery Death", "TNOT Tottering Tontine", "TNOT Feathered Fury", and "TNOT Surreal McCoy"
- A large number of episodes that are either great or good
- One utterly unique episode in "TNOT Man-Eating House"
- One episode that was so good it was remade: "TNOT Deadly Blossom"
- One overrated mess in "TNOT Returning Dead"
- And only two outright stinkers with "TNOT Infernal Machine" and "TNOT Gypsy Peril"
