I like the fight with West and Gordon vs the henchmen in the beginning of the episode.

"The Night of the Fatal Trap"
Okay, how about the lovely Joanna Moore?
When I get there I'll let you know! OK. I rewatched "The Night of the Fatal Trap" earlier today. I will say that it was better than I remembered, but that's not saying much. The teaser for the episode doesn't feature either West or Gordon, and could easily be from any western series of the era. And there was very little The Wild Wild West flavor, apart from the vial of sleeping gas concealed in West's boot heel. The previous two Collier Young produced episodes were also more conventional westerns, but were far more successful IMO. This one feels very pedestrian, or perhaps I should say equestrian, given how much horseback riding there is. Even the scenes on the wagon employ very obvious rear projection. IMO, there's no secret why this episode was filmed fourth but aired fifteenth. It's just not very good. And as for Joanna Moore, yes she's attractive, but neither her nor Mojave Mike can do much to elevate this substandard outing.

Alpha128, Did you use to stand outside of a cigar store in Collinsville Illinois? 😝 No, but I get this reference having just watched the episode today. Mojave Mike says this to the impassive bartender.

"The Night of the Steel Assassin"I rewatched "The Night of the Steel Assassin". It's a good episode, although this time it seemed to drag a bit in the middle. Some thoughts: - I liked the sound effect used on John Denner's voice. It was very effective in conveying his no longer quite human status.
- Sue Ane Langdon was cute and sexy and did a great job portraying two versions of the same character.
- The lamp with the rotating glass shade was an effective visual aid for conveying hypnotism. The problem is it is moved twice in the episode. It starts out in Torres' home, is then relocated to his saloon, and then is taken by Artie to the train. The fragile lamp is implausibly undamaged each time. We even see Artie carrying it through the saloon without any packing material whatsoever!
- I had forgotten that Jim actually picks up Torres' and drops him in the water. Since they make a big deal about how heavy Torres is with so much metal in his body, I wonder if this is feat Jim could actually do.

I believe “Steel Assassin” was stuntman Whitey Hughes first West appearance.

I believe “Steel Assassin” was stuntman Whitey Hughes first West appearance. Yes, that's what that other site says. This page lists him as one of the "Henchman in Cellar Fight". It looks like "Steel Assassin" was also the first West appearance of Roy Engel as President Grant. Another bit of trivia, both Hughes and Engel were also in the William Shatner movie Kingdom of the Spiders (1977) - it was Engel's last role.

Hughes is the guy that flies through the air at West in the cellar.

I think Hughes' most memorable appearance was in The Night of the Vicious Valentine (1967) where for some reason he laughs maniacally and is listed as Laughing Henchman (uncredited).

Yes, Whitey got a face full of cake in that episode. Henry Beckmann was hee hawing in the background as well.

"The Night the Dragon Screamed" / "The Night of the Flaming Ghost" / "The Night of the Grand Emir" / "The Night of the Whirring Death"
All of the episodes on Season 1, Disc 5 are solid, but not spectacular, IMO. I had even forgotten that "Whirring Death" was a Loveless episode.
I think my favorite of these is "Grand Emir" which features Yvonne Craig as Ecstasy LaJoie. This episode harkens back to the 1870s Goldfinger aspect previously seen in "The Night the Wizard Shook the Earth". In the prior episode, James had a special coach similar to James Bond's Aston Martin. In "Grand Emir", Ecstasy LaJoie is given a deadly tambourine obviously modeled after Oddjob's lethal hat. Speaking of deadly weapons, Professor Bolt's Kpinga makes a return appearance. Good model work in this episode too. I think it would be interesting if Ecstasy or The Assassin's Club had returned in future episodes.
"Whirring Death" was pretty good, and I thought interesting that both it and "Flaming Ghost" firmly establish the series takes place in 1874, which would be contradicted in later seasons.

Whirring Death is one of the episodes I remember watching as a 6 year old. That's an impressionable age. Do you remember being freaked out by the "little boy" who was actually a cigar smoking dwarf? Or by the exploding toys?

What is the villain who has the big head? I remember a picture in Famous Monsters of some guy with an elongated head. Do you know who that might be?
